This article emphasizes the importance of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion for psychiatrists with disabilities and advocates for their inclusion in the field. The inclusion of individuals from all backgrounds is crucial in addressing the current shortage of psychiatrists and improving the experiences of both psychiatrists and patients. The article also suggests the need for a comprehensive curriculum on disability for medical educators, program directors, and psychiatric leaders.
Although there is much work to be done, we believe that inclusion needs to begin at some point and want to advocate that psychiatrists with disabilities are included in diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts across the field. In the context of the current and projected psychiatric shortage, it is of utmost importance that we include peo-ple from all backgrounds to enhance the experience of psychiatrists and patients alike. Consider adding to conclusion a comment on whether there is a need for a compre-hensive curriculum on disability for medical educators, program directors, and psychi-atric leaders.
