Continuous terahertz omnidirectional beam steering by dual diffraction of metagratings

Summary: Dynamic beam steering with unlimited angular range and fast speed is challenging in the terahertz gap. In this study, the beam is steered by globally engineering the diffraction of two cascaded metagratings during in-plane rotation. The optimized metagratings direct the incoming beam towards any arbitrary direction with improved speed and efficiency.

Dynamically controlling terahertz wavefronts with cascaded metasurfaces

Summary: By rotating different layers at different speeds within a cascaded metadevice, the effective Jones-matrix property of the whole device can be dynamically changed, enabling manipulation of the wavefront and polarization characteristics of a THz beam. Experimental results confirm the successful achievement of wide-angle redirection and dynamic control of wavefront and polarization of THz beams.
