Probabilistic physics-informed machine learning for dynamic systems

Abhinav Subramanian et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a physics-informed machine learning approach for response prediction in dynamic systems. The approach combines a physics-based model and a probabilistic machine learning model to account for model error. The model error is quantified using Bayesian state estimation, and the machine learning model is trained to predict the output discrepancy. Different computational options are developed for different types of inputs and computational requirements. The proposed approach is demonstrated with numerical examples of a deep beam and hypersonic flow over an aircraft panel.

Machine learning approaches to estimate suspension parameters for performance degradation assessment using accurate dynamic simulations

Yongjun Pan et al.

Summary: In this study, various machine learning methods were comprehensively investigated for estimating the suspension parameters. The vehicle states calculated using a semi-recursive multibody model were used as inputs for training, and the results showed that the machine learning methods were able to accurately estimate the stiffness and damping coefficients of the suspension in real-time.

Uncertainty quantification of a deep learning model for failure rate prediction of water distribution networks

Xudong Fan et al.

Summary: Predicting the time-dependent pipe failure rate of water distribution networks is challenging due to complex factors. This study developed an uncertainty quantification framework for deep learning-based failure rate prediction and compared it with a statistical time series regression model. The results showed that the proposed framework outperformed the benchmark model in prediction accuracy and identified the major contributing factors to uncertainties. The framework is highly extensible and can be adapted for other machine learning models.

PhyCRNet: Physics-informed convolutional-recurrent network for solving spatiotemporal PDEs

Pu Ren et al.

Summary: Physics-informed convolutional-recurrent learning architectures (PhyCRNet and PhyCRNet-s) are proposed for solving PDEs without labeled data. An encoder-decoder convolutional long short-term memory network is utilized for low-dimensional spatial feature extraction and temporal evolution learning, with a loss function defined as aggregated discretized PDE residuals and I/BCs hard-encoded in the network for forcible satisfaction.
