Tailored covalent organic framework with phosphorylation for boosting typical actinide adsorption under acidic conditions

Design and Fabrication of Hypercrosslinked Covalent Organic Adsorbents for Selective Uranium Extraction

Summary: In this study, amidoxime-functionalized tetrafluoroterephthalonitrile (TFTPN) crosslinked with hydroquinone (bP), phloroglucinol (tP), and 4,4',4''-trihydroxytriphenylmethane (tBP) were used to fabricate three covalent organic polymers (COPs) bPF-AO, tPF-AO, and tBPF-AO with different crosslinked architectures. These COPs showed excellent performance in uranium extraction and detection, as well as notable physicochemical stability and recyclability. Moreover, the PAE-based COPs can be derived from inexpensive industry materials with easy processing methods.

Introducing self-assembly effect in adsorption process for efficient uranium extraction by zwitterion highly-functionalized fibers

Furthermore, PAN-PC demonstrates practicality in seawater and simulated nuclear wastewater. This work introduces a novel strategy of utilizing self-assembly effect to significantly enhance adsorption performance and provides a new approach for the development of efficient adsorbents for metal ions.

The construction of magnetic hydroxyapatite-functionalized pig manure-derived biochar for the efficient uranium separation

Summary: Three magnetic biochar-supported nano-hydroxyapatite materials were prepared with different magnetic sources, exhibiting excellent reusability and adsorption ability. The composite with nickel chloride as the magnetic source achieved a maximum adsorption capacity of 1723.5 mg/g, meeting the discharge limit standard for uranium-containing wastewater in China. The composite showed high removal efficiencies for uranium in different water systems, surpassing 90.2%, and maintained its magnetism after eight cycles of reuse. The strong chemical reactions between active sites and uranium were responsible for its outstanding adsorption ability.

Highly Efficient Electrocatalytic Uranium Extraction from Seawater over an Amidoxime-Functionalized In-N-C Catalyst

Summary: Seawater contains uranium at a concentration of approximately 3.3 ppb, making it a valuable and sustainable nuclear fuel source. This study developed an adsorption-electrocatalytic platform for extracting uranium from seawater using atomically dispersed indium anchored on hollow nitrogen-doped carbon capsules functionalized with flexible amidoxime moieties. The platform showed excellent uranyl capture properties and high selectivity for uranium extraction over vanadium in seawater. X-ray absorption spectroscopy and in situ Raman results provided detailed insights into the molecular mechanism of uranium extraction. This work contributes to the growing suite of technologies for harvesting valuable metals from the earth's oceans.
