Overcoming multidrug-resistant lung cancer by mitochondrial-associated ATP inhibition using nanodrugs

Jun-Young Park et al.

Summary: Despite the development of therapeutic modalities, multidrug resistance and incomplete destruction of deep-seated lung tumors are still long-standing problems in cancer treatment. This study identified nanodrugs with enhanced intracellular drug internalization by covalently bonding carbon nanotubes of a specific size with doxorubicin. The carbon nanotube conjugated doxorubicin sustained in multidrug-resistant tumor cells caused mitochondrial damage and suppressed ATP production, resulting in effective therapeutic effects against drug-resistant tumors.

Relationship Between Autophagy and Drug Resistance in Tumors

Xuan Hu et al.

Summary: Multidrug resistance (MDR) in tumor cells is a major obstacle in tumor therapy, and addressing this issue is of utmost importance. Autophagy, a self-degradation pathway in cells, plays a complex role in tumor cells, both inhibiting and promoting cancer. This study aims to investigate the relationship between autophagy and drug resistance in tumor cells from a molecular mechanism perspective.

Encapsulation of liquid metal nanoparticles inside metal-organic frameworks for hydrogel-integrated dual functional biotherapy

Juanjuan Li et al.

Summary: Liquid metal nanoparticles functionalized with surfactant molecules are used to assemble a nanocomposite material with a liquid metal core and a zeolitic-imidazolate framework shell. The resulting supraparticles are incorporated into an alginate-based hydrogel, which displays physiologically responsive sol-gel transformation, stable photothermal performance, and controllable zinc ion release. The composite hydrogel serves as a dual functional antitumor and antibacterial biomedicine, completely eradicating tumor cells/bacteria after a single treatment with laser-activated composite hydrogel.

Stimuli-responsive, dual-function prodrug encapsulated in hyaluronic acid micelles to overcome doxorubicin resistance

Lipeng Qiu et al.

Summary: A dual-functional pH-sensitive drug delivery system was developed for breast cancer therapy. The system showed higher cytotoxicity and cell uptake efficiency compared to other drug-loaded micelles, indicating its potential for reversing multidrug resistance. In vivo experiments demonstrated that the system effectively inhibited tumor growth without significant changes in body weight. The results suggest that the dual gain DNVM can enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy for doxorubicin-resistant tumor cells and has the potential to overcome multiple drug resistance.
