Wormholing in Anisotropic Media: Pore-Scale Effect on Large-Scale Patterns

R. Roded et al.

Summary: The dynamics of wormholing in anisotropic media are significantly influenced by anisotropy, controlling competition and spacing between wormholes, as well as affecting their shapes and flow. In media with low transverse pore conductivities, wormhole distribution is no longer scale-invariant and pronounced side branches develop.

Investigating the effects of intersection flow localization in equivalent-continuum-based upscaling of flow in discrete fracture networks

Maximilian O. Kottwitz et al.

Summary: Predicting effective permeabilities of fractured rock masses is crucial in reservoir modeling, often done through discrete fracture network (DFN) and equivalent continuum models (ECMs). While ECMs offer lower computational costs and the inclusion of matrix properties, careful selection of cell size is essential. It is found that the orientation of fracture intersection lines significantly affects permeability.

Probabilistic modeling of field-scale CO2 generation by carbonate-clay reactions in sedimentary basins

Giulia Ceriotti et al.

Summary: This study expands a methodology from one-dimensional to three-dimensional setting to investigate the impact of carbonate-clay reactions (CCR) on CO2 generation rate and source location in realistic sedimentary basins. By testing different types of CCRs, it is found that mineral composition has a significant effect on CO2 release.

Early hypogenic carbonic acid speleogenesis in unconfined limestone aquifers by upwelling deep-seated waters with high CO2 concentration: a modelling approach

Franci Gabrovsek et al.

Summary: This study presents results of digital modeling of a specific setting of hypogenic carbonic acid speleogenesis in an unconfined aquifer, where different water sources with varying dissolution characteristics form two flow domains. The study discusses the relationship between mixing fringe areas, fracture widening, and cave evolution.
