Plasticization mitigation strategies for gas and liquid filtration membranes- A review

Ying Shi Chang et al.

Summary: Plasticization is a common problem in polymeric membranes, where specific compounds can cause the material to degrade and lose performance. However, through smart material design and engineering processes, such as crosslinking and blending, this plasticization effect can be minimized. This review critically presents recent approaches to tackle plasticization in glassy polymeric membranes and offers recommendations for future work.

Fabrication of Ce-La-MOFs for defluoridation in aquatic systems: A kinetics, thermodynamics and mechanisms study

Jiapeng Hu et al.

Summary: Ce-La-MOFs composites synthesized via hydrothermal method were utilized as an adsorbent for fluoride removal from aqueous solutions. The effects of various factors such as preparation molar ratio, adsorption period, and initial fluoride concentration were investigated. The adsorption mechanism was deduced from the analysis of thermodynamics, kinetics models, and characterization techniques. The results demonstrated that Ce-La-MOFs exhibited high selectivity for F- and reached a removal efficiency of over 90% under optimal conditions. The adsorption process followed Langmuir and pseudo-second-order models, and involved ion exchange and electrostatic interaction mechanisms. Furthermore, Ce-La-MOFs composites showed favorable regeneration ability with a significant adsorption capacity after multiple regeneration cycles.

Cross-linked iron nanoparticle-doped reduced graphene oxide membranes for micropollutant removal from water

Yichen Wu et al.

Summary: Research shows that incorporating graphene-based nanomaterials on the surface of membranes can enhance separation performance, but it also results in low water fluxes and poor stability. To address these issues, researchers developed a cationic polyelectrolyte cross-linked graphene oxide nanocomposite membrane. This membrane showed promising results in removing micropollutants from wastewater, providing a potential solution for low-pressure micropollutant removal.

Doping-Modulated Strain Enhancing the Phosphate Tolerance on PtFe Alloys for High-Temperature Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells

Wei Li et al.

Summary: In this study, the phosphate tolerance of PtFe ordered intermetallic alloys was enhanced through a doping-modulated strain strategy with Cu as a dopant, leading to improved performance in HT-PEMFCs. The Cu doping helped to create compressive strain in PtFe crystals, altering the electronic structure of electrocatalysts and weakening the adsorption energy between phosphoric acid and Pt surfaces. The HT-PEMFCs assembled with these cathodic electrocatalysts showed higher peak power and stability compared to commercial Pt/C electrocatalysts.
