Effects of light, heat and relative humidity on the accelerated testing of photovoltaic degradation using Arrhenius model

U. M. Damo et al.

Summary: Energy demands in Nigeria have significantly increased due to industrialization and population growth. As solar energy is abundant in Nigeria, there is a growing reliance on solar photovoltaic (PV) modules for power generation. However, there is a lack of information on the lifespan and reliability of PV modules in the Nigerian climate. This study aims to determine the acceleration factor and effective temperatures in different strategic locations in Nigeria, considering light, heat, and irradiation effects. By analyzing different PV module configurations and using climatic data from seven locations spanning the six climatic zones in Nigeria, this study provides useful guidelines for lifespan testing of PV modules in Nigeria and other regions.

Infrastructure deterioration modeling with an inhomogeneous continuous time Markov chain: A latent state approach with analytic transition probabilities

Daijiro Mizutani et al.

Summary: This research proposes a regime-switching continuous-time Markov chain model to characterize performance deterioration of infrastructure assets and optimize intervention strategies. By using a state-augmentation technique, it obtains closed-form solutions for transition probabilities, making the statistical analysis simple. A case study shows that the proposed method outperforms the homogeneous Markov chain model in terms of accuracy and computation time.

Inverse Gaussian processes with correlated random effects for multivariate degradation modeling

Guanqi Fang et al.

Summary: A novel multivariate degradation model based on the inverse Gaussian process is proposed in this paper. The model incorporates random effects and captures both unit-wise variability and PC-wise dependence. An expectation-maximization algorithm is developed for parameter inference and validation tools are provided for model checking. The performance and practicality of the method are demonstrated through simulation studies and illustrative examples.

Inverse Gaussian process based reliability analysis for constant-stress accelerated degradation data

Peihua Jiang et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on interval estimation procedures for the constant stress accelerated degradation model based on the inverse Gaussian process. Exact confidence intervals are established for the shape parameter of the inverse Gaussian accelerated degradation model. Generalized confidence intervals for other model parameters and quantities of interest are derived using the generalized pivotal quantity procedure. Additionally, generalized prediction intervals are developed for future degradation levels at the normal stress level. The performances of the proposed interval estimation procedures are evaluated using Monte Carlo simulation. A comparison between bootstrap confidence intervals and the proposed inverse Gaussian degradation model is also conducted. The importance of this study is to provide reliable interval estimates for the constant stress accelerated degradation model.

An improved inverse power law model for accelerated fatigue life prediction of 6061-T6 and AZ31B-F

Changyuan Ge et al.

Summary: Using the inverse power law model (IPL) to evaluate the durability of materials has limitations, and an improved inverse power law model (IIPL) is proposed. Vibration fatigue experiments show that IIPL has higher accuracy in fatigue life prediction, especially for materials with two-stage S-N curves.
