Fe3O4@COF(TAPT-DHTA) Nanocomposites as Magnetic Solid-Phase Extraction Adsorbents for Simultaneous Determination of 9 Mycotoxins in Fruits by UHPLC-MS/MS

Jie Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a simple and efficient magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) strategy was developed using Fe3O4@COF(TAPT-DHTA) as an adsorbent to simultaneously purify and enrich nine mycotoxins in fruits. Fe3O4@COF(TAPT-DHTA) effectively captured the targeted mycotoxins due to its abundant hydroxyl groups and aromatic rings. The optimized MSPE conditions achieved a wide linear range, low limits of detection, and satisfactory recovery for the nine targeted mycotoxins when analyzed with UHPLC-MS/MS.

Deep eutectic solvent-based electromembrane hollow fiber liquid phase microextraction for determining Pb in water and food samples

Pilaipan Chaikhan et al.

Summary: In this study, a method called electromembrane hollow fiber liquid phase micro-extraction with a deep eutectic solvent and graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry detection (DES-EM-HFLPME-GFAAS) was proposed for the determination of Pb. The method involved converting Pb(II) to the anionic form of Pb-oxyanion under alkali conditions, facilitating the anion passing through the supported liquid membrane using electro-assisted technique, and monitoring the total lead using GFAAS. The method showed a linear range of 0.036-1.0 ng/mL, with a limit of detection of 0.011 ng/mL and a limit of quantitation of 0.036 ng/mL. The proposed method was successfully applied to determine lead in water and food samples with acceptable recoveries and showed no significant difference in lead concentration compared to certified values in standard reference materials.

Magnetic Nanoparticles Based Solid Phase Extraction Methods for the Determination of Trace Elements

Elif Ozturk Er et al.

Summary: Significant advancements in instrumental detection techniques have been made in the past three decades, leading to more accurate measurements of organic and inorganic analytes. The importance of sample preparation before instrumental reading cannot be underestimated, and solid phase extraction (SPE) and solid phase microextraction (SPME) have emerged as efficient methods for clean-up and preconcentration. Magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) have become ideal materials for analyte extraction due to their small size and easy manipulation under a magnetic field. This review focuses on the principles of SPE and SPME, and highlights the different types of MNPs that have been used for separation and preconcentration. The application of MNPs in the determination of trace elements in environmental, biological, and food samples is also discussed.
