A critical review on the simulation of ultra-short pulse laser-metal interactions based on a two-temperature model (TTM)

Shijie Song et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the important theories of ultra-short pulse laser ablation, including electromagnetic theory and matter reorganization theory, and summarizes the complex physical processes and the most popular two-temperature model in ultra-short pulse laser ablation. It discusses the use of the two-temperature model to enhance single-pulse laser ablation analysis and promote the understanding of the micro-nano structures generated by ultra-short pulse laser ablation. Various complex two-temperature model methods for simulating the interaction between ultra-short pulse lasers and metals are introduced. The main difficulties faced by ultra-short pulse laser processing are listed and suggestions for future simulations of ultra-short pulse laser processing are put forward.

Green wavelength femtosecond laser ablated copper surface

Yi-Hsien Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the nonlinear absorption effect during green wavelength femtosecond laser ablation of copper. Experimental and simulated results show that the simulated ablation depth obtained using the nonlinear absorption model is consistent with the experimental results.

Formation mechanism of superhydrophobicity of stainless steel by laser-assisted decomposition of stearic acid and its corrosion resistance

Yiping Tang et al.

Summary: Superhydrophobic surfaces have gained significant attention for their self-cleaning, corrosion resistance, and anti-bacterial abilities. This paper proposes a hybrid laser-chemical method to prepare superhydrophobic micro patterns on 316L stainless steel, which combines laser ablation and laser-assisted chemical decomposition of stearic acid. The experiments demonstrate that this method can achieve the best superhydrophobicity with good chemical durability and corrosion resistance.

A computational study of heat transfer and material removal in picosecond laser micro-grooving of copper

Hao Zhu et al.

Summary: A 2D two-temperature model was developed for picosecond laser micro-grooving of copper, and comprehensive temperature dependent properties were employed to explore the temperature evolution and groove formation process. The verified model showed good agreement between predicted and measured groove depths, indicating high accuracy in the calculation.
