On-street parking for freight, services, and e-commerce traffic in US cities: A simulation model incorporating demand and duration

Diana G. Ramirez-Rios et al.

Summary: This study develops a modeling framework using publicly available data to estimate on-street parking demand for urban commercial traffic in the US. The methodology includes a simulation model that incorporates the estimation of freight and service activities (FSA) demand, probability distributions for FSA duration, and industry sectors at the 2-digit NAICS level. The results show a shortage of parking spaces during peak hours in denser areas, and the off-hours strategy is found to be the most effective in reducing daytime parking needs.

Modular vehicle routing for combined passenger and freight transport

Jonas Hatzenbuhler et al.

Summary: This study explores the potential of modular vehicle concepts and consolidation to enhance the efficiency of urban freight and passenger transport. Modularity is achieved by connecting multiple vehicles to form a platoon, while consolidation integrates passenger and freight demand in the routing problem. A novel modular multi-purpose pickup and delivery problem (MMP-PDP) model is proposed and solved using CPLEX and Adaptive Large Neighborhood Search (ALNS), demonstrating significant cost savings and reduced trip duration.

Complete LCA of battery electric and conventional fuel vehicles for freight trips

Mounisai Siddartha Middela et al.

Summary: Estimating emissions savings from alternative vehicular technologies is crucial for improving urban freight transport policy. Through real-world data and surveys, we estimated the freight emissions in Chennai, India and found that adopting BS-VI vehicles and BEVs for freight delivery can significantly reduce emissions.

Modelling Freight Trip Generation Based on Deliveries for Brazilian Municipalities

Leise Kelli de Oliveira et al.

Summary: This study estimated freight trip generation models using deliveries to commercial establishments in Brazilian municipalities. The findings showed that alternative techniques to ordinary least squares regression can provide better results, and the number of employees has a more significant influence in small cities.

Exploring spatial interaction effects in freight trip generation model for intermediate and pure receiver establishment

Marimuthu Venkadavarahan et al.

Summary: This study explored the spatial interaction effects on the development of Freight Trip Generation (FTG) models, finding that the Spatial Durbin Error Model (SDEM) is the most suitable model for explaining spatial interaction effects more precisely. The study highlights the importance of local spatial spillover in understanding urban freight trip generation for both intermediate and pure receiver establishments.

Freight trips generated at retail malls in dense urban areas

Lynette Cheah et al.

Summary: This study evaluates freight trips generated around retail developments or commercial districts in dense metropolitan areas and develops an aggregated model based on establishment-level data. By analyzing the relationship between establishment-specific attributes and deliveries, the study identifies the best model that can predict freight vehicle trips per day to retail malls.

Time-dependent patterns in freight trip generation

Jose Holguin-Veras et al.

Summary: This paper summarizes the research conducted by the authors to investigate time-dependent patterns in Freight Trip Generation (FTG) and discusses the implications for transportation planning and policy. The study considered different functional forms, establishment characteristics, time metrics, and industry sectors in analyzing the time-dependent effects on FTG.

Data Collection and Modeling of Restaurants' Freight Trip Generation for Indian Cities

Gopal R. Patil et al.

Summary: This study aims to develop freight trip generation equations for the booming restaurant service sector in India, focusing on Mumbai and Delhi-NCR. Approximately 150 restaurants were surveyed, with an observed daily average of around three vehicles produced and six vehicles attracted in terms of freight trips.
