Effects of oxidizers on the ignition and combustion characteristics of aluminum nanoparticles

Yintao Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, the oxidation process of Aluminum nanoparticles (ANPs) in different atmospheres was investigated. It was found that in mixture atmospheres, ANPs experience a shorter ignition delay and undergo a new reaction called re-oxidation. By adjusting the contents of O2, CO2, and H2O, the ignition delay time and reaction heat release can be tailored for optimal ANPs combustion performance. This research provides a theoretical basis for precise regulation of ANPs energy release.

A machine learning-based atomistic-continuum multiscale technique for modeling the mechanical behavior of Ni3Al

A. R. Khoei et al.

Summary: In this paper, a machine learning-based atomistic-continuum multiscale method is developed to model the mechanical behavior of Ni-based superalloys. The method uses kinematic and energetic consistency principles to link the atomistic and continuum scales, and investigates the effect of various parameters on the proper atomistic RVE in the multiscale analysis. Stress-strain samples are generated using molecular dynamics analysis and divided into groups based on strain values. A feedforward neural network is trained for each group to enhance the regression accuracy.

A multiscale framework for atomistic-continuum transition in nano-powder compaction process using a cap plasticity model

A. R. Khoei et al.

Summary: This paper presents a computational atomistic-continuum multiscale framework for simulating the nano-powder compaction process. By combining molecular dynamics analysis and a cone-cap plasticity model, the mechanical behavior of nano-powder material is captured. The proposed multiscale framework uses a coarse-scale constitutive law enhanced by molecular dynamics results to simulate the compaction process. The model parameters are optimized using experimental data, and the performance and efficiency of the simulation results are demonstrated.

Mechanical properties and ?/?? interfacial misfit network evolution: A study towards the creep behavior of Ni-based single crystal superalloys

Amir R. Khoei et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the role of temperature, stress, and rhenium (Re) on the gamma/gamma' interfacial misfit dislocation network and mechanical response of Ni-based single crystal superalloys. The results showed that increasing temperature dispersed the atomic potential energy at the interface, diminishing the strength and stability of the networks. Loading resulted in dislocation propagation as the dominant deformation mechanism. Additionally, the study evaluated the effect of Re atoms, finding that they hindered dislocations in the gamma phase. The investigation also revealed that increased temperature led to escalated damage to the interfacial network and the domination of softening mechanisms on deformation.

Molecular dynamics study of the effect of moisture and porosity on thermal conductivity of tobermorite 14 Å

Song-Nam Hong et al.

Summary: In this study, the thermal conductivity of tobermorite 14 angstrom was found to increase with moisture content by mass within the interior pore at specific porosity, while the slope of the linear fitting function decreased as porosity increased. Additionally, the normalized thermal conductivity was observed to increase exponentially with increasing moisture content by volume. The phonon density of states of porous and moist tobermorite 14 angstrom was calculated to explain the contribution of individual atoms and molecules to the thermal properties. These results can be useful in designing high thermal insulating materials for energy-saving buildings.

Thermal Conductivity and Viscosity: Review and Optimization of Effects of Nanoparticles

Kevin Apmann et al.

Summary: This review focused on the effects of base liquid, temperature, possible surfactant, concentration, and characteristics of nanoparticles on the thermal conductivity and viscosity of nanofluids. Increasing nanoparticle concentration leads to higher thermal conductivity and viscosity, while increasing nanoparticle size can have varying effects on thermal conductivity. The addition of surfactants can alter the thermal conductivity and viscosity of nanofluids.

Summary: Sintering behavior of aluminum nano particles (ANPs) involves a three-stage process, with different sizes of ANPs exhibiting varying rates of sintering at the same temperature. Ethanol-coated ANPs demonstrate excellent anti-sinter properties, even at temperatures above their melting points.
