Anti-icing and anti-frost properties of structured superhydrophobic coatings based on aluminum honeycombs

Xiaodong Chen et al.

Summary: The combination of a macroscopic aluminum honeycomb structure and a superhydrophobic coating can create a mechanically stable coating with excellent performance in preventing ice, frost, and condensation. This finding provides a new strategy for industrialization of superhydrophobic coatings and has potential applications in various fields including anti-icing and anti-condensation for electrical equipment, drag reduction, and anti-corrosion.

Research on defrost free air-source heat pump with surface stripe concavo-convex fins

Takeshi Yajima et al.

Summary: This study aims to utilize defrost-free heat exchangers to extend heat exchanger blockage time and improve heat pump performance. Research findings show that suppressing frost formation on tubes can extend heat exchanger blockage time, and an optimal fin pitch that can enhance the overall heat transfer coefficient has been identified.

Biomimetic modification of freezing facility surfaces to prevent icing and frosting during freezing for the food industry

Zhiwei Zhu et al.

Summary: The superhydrophobic biomimetic surfaces exhibit the capability to delay icing, while the slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces show excellent de-icing performance with ultra-low ice adhesion strength. The future development of bionic anti-freezing materials should focus primarily on non-toxicity, robust mechanical stability, economy, and scalability.

Using Frost to Promote Cassie Ice on Hydrophilic Pillars

Hyunggon Park et al.

Summary: A novel method has been developed to suspend ice in the air without the need for fragile hydrophobic coatings or nanostructures. By preferentially growing frost on specific surface structures and utilizing the dynamic pressure of impacting droplets, ice can be trapped in the air.
