Effects of foreign aid and energy aid inflows on renewable and non-renewable electricity production in BRICS countries

Muhammed Ashiq Villanthenkodath et al.

Summary: This study empirically examines the effects of overseas aggregate aid and energy aid inflows on renewable and non-renewable electricity production in selected BRICS countries. The findings indicate that economic growth, aid inflows, foreign direct investment, and trade openness promote renewable electricity production, while trade openness reduces it. Additionally, aid inflows reduce non-renewable electricity production, while economic growth, foreign direct investment, and trade openness promote it.

Implications of different income distributions for future residential energy demand in the US

Jon Sampedro et al.

Summary: Future income distribution choices will have long-term implications on residential energy demand, investment, greenhouse gas, and pollutant emission patterns. More equal income distribution leads to higher energy demand and reduced energy poverty, while greater income inequality leads to lower energy demand.

Fiscal decentralization as new determinant of renewable energy demand in China: The role of income inequality and urbanization

Muhammad Shahbaz et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the relationship between fiscal decentralization and renewable energy demand in China, considering income inequality, economic growth, urbanization, and economic globalization as the main determinants in the energy demand function. The empirical results show that fiscal decentralization positively affects the demand for renewable energy, while income inequality is negatively related to renewable energy consumption. Economic growth, urbanization, and economic globalization contribute to the consumption of renewable energy.

Financial development, renewable energy and CO2 emission in G7 countries: New evidence from non-linear and asymmetric analysis

Deyi Xu et al.

Summary: The G7 countries have been facing challenges in achieving the Sustainable Development Goal 13 and 7 due to financialization issues and implementation problems with renewable energy generation. This study analyzes the nonlinear and asymmetric effects of financial development and renewable energy generation on carbon emissions, and proposes an SDG-oriented policy framework.

Can renewable energy investment reduce carbon dioxide emissions? Evidence from scale and structure

Zikun Yang et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of renewable energy investment on carbon dioxide emissions and finds that increasing the scale of investment may increase emissions, while the effect depends on the investment structure. Increasing the proportional investment in wind energy can reduce emissions, while increasing the proportional investment in solar energy and bioenergy may increase emissions.

Carbon neutrality potential of the ASEAN-5 countries: Implications from asymmetric effects of income inequality on renewable energy consumption

Summary: The study reveals an asymmetric effect of income inequality on renewable energy consumption, where higher income inequality leads to a stronger promotion of renewable energy consumption. Policy implications suggest reducing income inequality in ASEAN-5 to promote renewable energy consumption and achieve carbon neutrality targets.

Estimating the macroeconomic determinants of total, renewable, and non-renewable energy demands in Bangladesh: the role of technological innovations

Muntasir Murshed et al.

Summary: Bangladesh is poised to become one of the leading emerging market economies, expecting substantial economic growth and increased energy consumption levels over the next decade. Economic growth and household consumption expenditure positively influence energy demand, while income inequality has opposite effects. Technological innovations reduce non-renewable energy demand and increase renewable energy demand, with oil price shocks having minimal impact on energy demand.

Income inequality and renewable energy consumption: Time-varying non-parametric evidence

Sefa Awaworyi Churchill et al.

Summary: The study examines the time-varying effect of income inequality on renewable energy consumption, with a short period of negative relationship between 1995 and 2002, followed by a switch to positive relationship from 2010 onwards. Different measures of renewable energy show heterogeneous effects of income inequality, emphasizing the need for policymakers to consider the channels through which income inequality works when developing dynamic policies for renewable energy uptake or transition.

Effects of trade openness on renewable energy consumption in OECD countries: New insights from panel smooth transition regression modelling

Mingming Zhang et al.

Summary: The study reveals a nonlinear relationship between trade openness and renewable energy consumption, with imports, exports, and total trade having different effects on renewable energy consumption. Imports have a threshold effect, switching from promoting to inhibiting once reaching a certain level, while exports and total trade constantly promote renewable energy consumption.

The corruption and income inequality puzzle: Does political power distribution matter?

Joseph Keneck-Massil et al.

Summary: The literature on income inequality outcomes of corruption is inconclusive. This paper provides new insights by emphasizing the role of political power distribution in the corruption-income inequality nexus. Lower levels of corruption are associated with reduced inequalities worldwide, but this counter-intuitive relationship is only found in developing countries due to the uneven distribution of political power, where non-dominant groups engage in corruption to access public services or support their income-generating activities.
