Metastatic Progression of Osteosarcomas: A Review of Current Knowledge of Environmental versus Oncogenic Drivers

Guillaume Anthony Odri et al.

Summary: Osteosarcomas are heterogeneous bone tumors with complex genetic and chromosomic alterations. The metastatic capacities of osteosarcoma cells can be predicted by gene and microRNA signatures. Current therapeutic strategies have limited efficacy for metastatic osteosarcoma patients. Recent studies suggest a hierarchical organization of tumor cell clones and the potential involvement of cancer stem cells in metastatic progression.
