Establishment and characterization of a permanent heart cell line from largemouth bass Micropterus salmoides and its application to fish virology and immunology

Weiwei Zeng et al.

Summary: A permanent cell line (MSH) was established from the heart tissue of largemouth bass, which showed optimal growth conditions and karyotypes suitable for genetic studies. The MSH cells demonstrated susceptibility to various fish viruses and can be utilized for future studies in genetics, virology, and immunology.

Grouper TRIM23 exerts antiviral activity against iridovirus and nodavirus

Linyong Zhi et al.

Summary: Fish TRIM23 plays a critical role in host defense against virus infections by interacting with multiple host proteins to regulate immune responses, increase the expression of interferon-related signaling molecules and pro-inflammatory cytokines, and activate the promoter activities of IFN and NF-kappa B.

Effects of partial replacement of fish meal with porcine meat meal on growth performance, antioxidant status, intestinal morphology, gut microflora and immune response of juvenile golden pompano (Trachinotus ovatus)

Jianbin Huang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of replacing fish meal with porcine meat meal on the growth performance, antioxidant capacity, intestinal morphology, gut microflora, and signaling pathway expression in juvenile golden pompano. The results showed that replacing fish meal with porcine meat meal up to 30% had no significant impact on growth performance and feed utilization, but adversely affected antioxidant capacity, immune response, and gut microflora of the fish.

Gill oxidative damage caused by acute ammonia stress was reduced through the HIF-1α/NF-κb signaling pathway in golden pompano (Trachinotus ovatus)

Ming-Jian Liu et al.

Summary: Exposure to high levels of ammonia led to abnormal immune and antioxidant mechanisms in golden pompano within a short period of time, while prolonged exposure disrupted the balance of the defense system, resulting in oxidative damage and inflammation in gill tissues.

Development of a sea perch (Lateolabrax japonicus) fry cell line and its application to the study of fish virus-host interactions

Youhua Huang et al.

Summary: We established a new cell line from sea perch fry, which predominantly consisted of epithelial-like cells and proliferated well under specific culture conditions. These SPF cells showed susceptibility to different viruses and underwent non-apoptotic cell death upon infection. Additionally, interferon-related genes were up-regulated in virus-infected SPF cells, indicating the involvement of host interferon immune response in virus infection.

Development and characterization of novel cell lines from kidney and eye of rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss for virological studies

S. Suryakodi et al.

Summary: Novel cell lines from rainbow trout eye, kidney, and spleen were successfully characterized and cryopreserved at different passage levels. These cell lines showed susceptibility to fish nodavirus and tilapia lake virus, while being resistant to Cyprinid herpesvirus 2. They were utilized for virus isolation from disease suspected fish samples, demonstrating their potential importance in virology research.

Interferon regulatory factor 7 contributes to the host response during Vibrio harveyi infection in the golden pompano Trachinotus ovatus

Ying Wu et al.

Summary: Vibrio harveyi is a serious pathogen for marine fishes, and in this study, the characterization of IRF7 gene in golden pompano (Trachinotus ovatus) revealed its important role in host defense against V. harveyi infection through activation of the IRF7- IFN pathway. TroIRF7 was found to inhibit bacterial replication and promote interferon production, indicating its significance in immune responses to V. harveyi infection.
