Vanadium(IV) solvent extraction enhancement in high acidity using di-(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid with [Cl-] present: an experimental and theoretical study

Hong Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, the coordination mechanism of vanadium in acid leaching solution at low pH was investigated, and it was found that chloride ions can significantly enhance vanadium extraction without entering the organic phase. Additionally, the hydrogen ions of the extractant were observed to enter the aqueous phase more easily, reducing the required pH for the extraction reaction.

A comprehensive review on the ultrasound-enhanced leaching recovery of valuable metals: Applications, mechanisms and prospects

Shenxu Bao et al.

Summary: In the past two decades, ultrasound has been widely used in the hydrometallurgical leaching process to recover valuable metals from raw materials. This method aims to overcome the drawbacks of conventional leaching processes, such as low recovery rates, long duration, high reagent usage, and energy consumption. This study provides a comprehensive overview of ultrasound-enhanced leaching techniques for various metals, including nonferrous and ferrous metals, rare metals, rare earth elements, and precious metals. The mechanism behind the ultrasound enhancement is discussed, including improved leaching kinetics, enhanced mass transfer and diffusion of lixiviants, and oxidative conversion of metals from insoluble to soluble states. The challenges and future prospects of using ultrasound irradiation for leaching recovery of valuable metals are also proposed.

A novel and sustainable technique to precipitate vanadium from vanadium-rich solutions via efficient ultrasound irradiation

Bo Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel and environmentally friendly technique of using ultrasound to enhance the ammonium salt precipitation process of vanadium was proposed. The results showed that the ultrasound precipitation method can achieve similar vanadium precipitation rate and purity compared to the regular precipitation method, while significantly reducing the reaction time and ammonium salt consumption. The products obtained by ultrasound precipitation method also exhibited more uniform particle size distribution and regular crystal shape.

A cleaner and sustainable method to recover vanadium and chromium from the leaching solution based on solvent extraction

Ziwen Ying et al.

Summary: A cleaner and sustainable method using amide as extractant was developed to recover vanadium and chromium from leaching solution. The co-extraction of V(V) and Cr(VI) in the chlorinated system achieved high extraction efficiencies, while the subsequent stripping process achieved high recovery efficiencies. The extracted vanadium and chromium could be selectively stripped, resulting in high purity products. The research also provided insights into the extraction mechanism and explored the reduction phenomenon of V(V) and Cr(VI).
