Electrosynthesis of Vertically Aligned Zinc Oxide Nanoflakes on 3D Porous Cu Foam Enables Dendrite-Free Li-Metal Anode

Geng Luo et al.

Summary: In this study, a simple method was developed to grow vertically aligned ZnO nanoflakes on the surface of 3D Cu foam through an electrochemical synthetic process. The unique structure of the nanoflakes effectively suppressed the growth of lithium dendrites, increasing the number of lithium metal nucleation sites and the specific surface area of the anode. As a result, the performance of lithium metal batteries was greatly improved.

Bridging 1D Inorganic and Organic Synthesis to Fabricate Ultrathin Bismuth-Based Nanotubes with Controllable Size as Anode Materials for Secondary Li Batteries

Kai Zong et al.

Summary: A polymer chain templated method was developed to synthesize ultrathin Bi2O2CO3 nanotubes with controlled diameters. These nanotubes were formed by the electrostatic absorption between functional groups on the polymer template and the growth habit of Bi2O2CO3. The synthesized nanotubes showed a narrow diameter deviation and exhibited a decent lithium-ion storage capacity, even at low temperatures.

A synergetic promotion of sodium-ion storage in titania nanosheets by superlattice assembly with reduced graphene oxide and Fe-doping strategy

Yu Tian et al.

Summary: Doped restacked 2D titania nanosheets with Fe elements and assembled with conductive rGO can enhance charge transfer, decrease Na+ diffusion barrier, increase stability of titania nanosheet, leading to improved capacity and long cycle stability of anode. The superlattice composites of Ti0.67Fe0.3O2/rGO exhibited high sodium ion capacity and stable performance even after long cycling process.

Improving the Electrochemical Property of Silicon Anodes through Hydrogen-Bonding Cross-Linked Thiourea-Based Polymeric Binders

Wen-Feng Ren et al.

Summary: In this study, hydrogen-bonding cross-linked thiourea-based polymeric binders (denoted CMC-co-SN) were designed and prepared for Si anodes. These binders, formed through in situ thermopolymerization, create a tight and physical interlocked layer with the Cu current collector, significantly improving the electrochemical performance of Si anodes by enhancing binding forces and maintaining electrode integrity. The results show high initial Coulomb efficiency and excellent cyclability for both micro- and nano-sized Si particles when using these binders.

Interplay of Lithium Intercalation and Plating on a Single Graphite Particle

Tao Gao et al.

Summary: Improving safety, increasing charging rates, and extending the lifetime of lithium-ion batteries is a major challenge, with the key being to control lithium plating on graphite anodes. Experimental studies have shown that the onset of plating is strongly coupled with phase separation in graphite, occurring only on the fully lithiated edges of particles. The competition between Li insertion and plating is further elucidated through energetics and kinetics analysis.

Topochemical Deintercalation of Li from Layered LiNiB: toward 2D MBene

Gourab Bhaskar et al.

Summary: The research demonstrates that deintercalation of Li from the layered compound LiNiB can be achieved through a specific method, resulting in the formation of unique metastable borides with a novel structure such as Li around 0.5NiB. The deintercalation of Li proceeds via a zip-lock mechanism, leading to the formation of Li similar to 0.5NiB with a complex crystal structure. The formation of double or triple [NiB] layers in Li similar to 0.5NiB induces a change in magnetic behavior from temperature-independent paramagnets to spin-glassiness.
