High-performance inkjet printing ink: Properties and application effects of vinyl sulfone reactive dye-based inks

Yun Li et al.

Summary: By analyzing the structure of three vinyl sulfone reactive dyes in aqueous solution, the physicochemical properties of the dye solutions at different concentrations were studied, as well as the color fastness and color depth values of cotton, linen, and silk inkjet printed fabrics. The results showed that all three inks had good color quality and color fastness, with silk fabric having higher color depth than cotton and linen fabrics. This study provides a cleaner and cost-effective option for inkjet printing on natural fabrics by exploring the properties of vinyl sulfone reactive dye-based inks.

Preparation of Nylon-6 micro-nanofiber composite membranes with 3D uniform gradient structure for high-efficiency air filtration of ultrafine particles

Liyuan Zhang et al.

Summary: Compared to traditional melt-blown nonwoven materials, micro-nanofiber composite membranes with a uniform spatial gradient structure are the future of high efficiency and low resistance filtration materials, particularly for ultrafine particles under 0.25 kinetic diameter (PM0.25). Nylon-6 micro-nanofiber composite membranes with a 3D uniform gradient structure were produced using air jet spinning and PEO assistance. The fluffy 3D gradient structure provided a uniform gradual pore gradient that effectively captured PM0.25 particles under high gas flow. The Nylon-6 FCMs exhibited controllable structure, high tensile strength, good moisture permeability, and excellent filtration performance, with FCM-1 achieving optimal filtering performance (filtration efficiency of 99.99% and pressure drop of 144 Pa). Masks made from these Nylon-6 FCMs showed comparable air and moisture permeability to commercial melt-blown masks, and maintained good filtration performance even in high temperature and humidity environments, providing comfortable wearing experience and stable protection, particularly during the current COVID-19 outbreak.

Scalable preparation of MWCNTs/PAN conductive composite fibers with Tai Chi structure for thermotherapy textiles

Bingjian Deng et al.

Summary: Compared with traditional clothing, wearable textiles with physiotherapy were a breakthrough innovation, especially those made of fiber materials with good mechanical properties and excellent electrical conductivity. The preparation of profiled conductive composite fibers (PCFs) with Tai Chi structure was achieved using polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and carboxylic multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) by wet spinning. The PCFs exhibited high conductivity and mechanical strength, and were used to develop comfortable and stable wearable electric heaters with thermotherapy applications.

Interaction enhancement of Lyocell cellulose chains for controlled fibrillation behavior with greener application in eco-textiles

Lujian Shi et al.

Summary: This study found that Lyocell fibers have a high tendency to fibrillate during the dyeing process, which affects the product quality and its application in eco-textiles. To solve this problem, a greener and simpler fibrillation prevention treatment was conducted to enhance the interaction between Lyocell cellulose chains. The nonionic crosslinker with isocyanate reactive groups significantly reduced the fibrillation tendency under specific treatment conditions. Furthermore, the interaction between cellulose chains was improved after dyeing, and the nonionic sample showed little effect on dye fixation and added wrinkle resistance to Lyocell fabrics compared to cationic and anionic crosslinkers. This method offers a shorter process and lower chemical consumption compared to conventional Lyocell dyeing, promoting the development of high-quality and eco-friendly Lyocell textiles.

The influence of the multi-level structure under high drawing on the preparation of high strength Lyocell fiber

Shiqiang Cui et al.

Summary: The study investigated the multi-level structure and mechanical properties of Lyocell fiber at different draw ratios. Results showed that the increase in draw ratio led to improvements in fiber strength and modulus due to increased crystallinity and orientation. However, at excessive draw ratios, the mechanical properties decreased as a result of slip in the highly crystallized and oriented elementary fibril.

The enhancement of wool reactive dyes ink-jet printing through air plasma pretreatment

Mengyue Wang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a green and efficient air plasma pretreatment method to improve the ink-jet printing performance of wool fabrics. The plasma treatment increases the contact area between wool fibers and dyes, enhances the wettability of wool, and increases the binding sites between reactive dyes and wool fibers. This leads to improved ink absorption and covalent binding of dyes and fibers, resulting in better printing quality.

A Water-Soluble Epoxy-Based Green Crosslinking System for Stabilizing PVA Nanofibers

Yujian Zhang et al.

Summary: This study develops a green approach to fabricate water-resistant polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) nanofibers by using a water-based epoxy compound as the crosslinker. The uniform dispersion of the crosslinking agents in the electrospinning solution plays a vital role in improving the stability of spinning solutions and the water resistance of crosslinked PVA nanofibers. This work could open up a novel strategy and green approach for the stabilization of water-based nanofibers.

Sustainable Cross-Linking of Man-Made Cellulosic Fibers with Poly(carboxylic acids) for Fibrillation Control

Yibo Ma et al.

Summary: The study proposed a green route for cross-linking regenerated cellulose fibers using citric acid and 1,2,3,4-butanetetracarboxylic acid to prevent fibrillation. It was found that BTCA showed better cross-linking performance compared to CA, and the addition of glycerol and xylitol helped avoid yellowing issues. Adding softener in the cross-linker solution enhanced the mechanical properties and reduced the curing temperature without deteriorating the fibrillation index of the fibers.

Summary: Improving flame retardancy of lyocell fibers has become an important issue in the textile industry. By modifying lyocell fibers and preparing flame retardant lyocell fibers, significant improvements in thermal properties, oxygen index value, and strength retention were achieved. The ability of flame retardant lyocell fibers to generate a highly graphitized char layer and release more water at high temperatures contributes to their enhanced flame retardancy.
