Explaining Attitudes Toward Refugees and Immigrants in Europe

Polarization in attitudes towards refugees and migrants in the Netherlands

Summary: Previous research has found conflicting results regarding the relationship between religiosity and attitudes toward immigrants, and it is crucial to consider religiosity, value-support, and threat perceptions simultaneously. Religiosity has the weakest direct effect on attitudes toward immigrants, while threat perceptions have the strongest direct effects, followed by value-support. However, religiosity indirectly affects attitudes toward immigrants through threat perceptions.
