Metabolic Syndrome among Patients with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Presenting to a Tertiary Care Hospital: A Descriptive Cross-Sectional Study

Amrita Giri et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome among patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome. A survey was conducted on 106 women diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome, and it was found that 47.1% of patients also had metabolic syndrome. The main components of metabolic syndrome were low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and central obesity.

The impact of ageing and menopause in women with polycystic ovary syndrome

Nafiye Helvaci et al.

Summary: PCOS in women of reproductive age is associated with increased risk of diabetes and cardiometabolic diseases, but the risk seems to decrease with ageing. Limited data suggest that cardiometabolic profile does not further deteriorate in women with PCOS after menopause, and the risk of cardiovascular disease in ageing women with PCOS appears to be similar to those without PCOS.

Subclinical cardiovascular disease and polycystic ovary syndrome

Joanne Michelle D. Gomez et al.

Summary: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) affects approximately 6%-10% of women worldwide, with features of hyperandrogenism, irregular menses, infertility, and polycystic appearing ovaries on ultrasound. PCOS is also associated with endocrine and metabolic disorders that increase the risk for subclinical cardiovascular disease.

Polycystic ovary syndrome: a risk-enhancingfactor for cardiovascular disease

Carolyn Guan et al.

Summary: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder in women of reproductive age and is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, there is a lack of consistent definitions and research results, and further studies are needed to determine the association and causality. In clinical practice, CVD risk screening should be performed, and lifestyle management and pharmacotherapy should be implemented as appropriate.

Disruption of Circadian Rhythms by Shift Work Exacerbates Reperfusion Injury in Myocardial Infarction

Yichao Zhao et al.

Summary: Shift work is associated with increased myocardial infarction reperfusion injury in patients with AMI. A novel nuclear receptor subfamily 1 group D member 1/cardiotrophin-like cytokine factor 1 axis in the heart may play a crucial role in mediating the detrimental effects of shift work on myocardial injury.

Markers of insulin resistance in Polycystic ovary syndrome women: An update

Chantal Anifa Amisi

Summary: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder, which can lead to various comorbidities such as infertility, metabolic dysfunction, and cardiovascular disease. Insulin resistance is a prominent feature of PCOS and is associated with reproductive dysfunction, increased risk of cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. The development of convenient and accurate markers for early detection and assessment of insulin resistance is crucial.

Ten-Year Differences in Women's Awareness Related to Coronary Heart Disease: Results of the 2019 American Heart Association National Survey: A Special Report From the American Heart Association

Mary Cushman et al.

Summary: This study found a decline in women's awareness that heart disease is the leading cause of death among women from 2009 to 2019, particularly among Hispanic and non-Hispanic Black women, and younger women. This highlights the need for increased focus on women's health and education to reverse these trends.

Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes and Cardiovascular Disease Risk: Unique Opportunities for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention in Women: A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association

Nisha I. Parikh et al.

Summary: This statement summarizes the impact of adverse pregnancy outcomes on women's risk of cardiovascular disease and highlights the importance of recognizing this impact. Lifestyle interventions such as adopting a heart-healthy diet and increasing physical activity can help reduce CVD risk. Further research on non-White women is needed to address health disparities and inform recommendations for primary CVD prevention.

Chronic Low Grade Inflammation in Pathogenesis of PCOS

Ewa Rudnicka et al.

Summary: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is characterized by chronic anovulation, hyperandrogenism, and polycystic ovarian morphology, often leading to health issues like obesity and insulin resistance. Studies suggest a link between PCOS and chronic inflammation, which may contribute to cardiovascular diseases and other complications.

The Lancet women and cardiovascular disease Commission: reducing the global burden by 2030

Birgit Vogel et al.

Summary: Despite decades of grassroots campaigns to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease in women, there has been stagnation in reducing the overall burden of the disease in the past decade. This Commission aims to fill knowledge gaps and provide recommendations to reduce the global burden of cardiovascular disease in women by 2030, with a focus on raising awareness of gender-related disparities.
