Measuring redundancy: the relation between concord and complexity

Summary: This paper investigates the relationship between syntagmatic redundancy and language complexity. The study finds that redundancy increases objective complexity, while its effects on subjective complexity are contradictory. To further explore the impact of redundancy on language acquisition and processing, a cross-linguistically valid measurement needs to be established. Exposure and emergence in usage-based grammar: computational experiments in 35 languages

Summary: This paper utilizes computational experiments to investigate the role of exposure in the emergence of construction grammars. The experiments demonstrate that the growth rate of lexicon is faster than that of grammar, and the growth rate of grammar is not influenced by the growth rate of lexicon. Additionally, register-specific grammars converge onto more similar constructions as exposure increases. Furthermore, the rate at which constructions are forgotten is similar to the growth rate of the constructicon.
