Effective Cr(VI) reduction over high throughput Bi-BDC MOF photocatalyst

Ya Gao et al.

Summary: In this study, a high throughput Bi-BDC metal-organic framework with uniform rod-like morphology was successfully prepared by a microwave-assisted method. It showed complete photocatalytic Cr(VI) reduction within 6.0 minutes under low-power LED UV light when tartaric acid was present. The Cr(VI) reduction performance of the prepared Bi-BDC photocatalyst was slightly influenced by environmental factors such as pH and different inorganic ions, but it exhibited good stability and could be used for five consecutive runs. Additionally, the mechanism of Cr(VI) reduction with the presence of tartaric acid over the Bi-BDC photocatalyst was clarified.

Chromium in Water and Carcinogenic Human Health Risk

Maria-Nefeli Georgaki et al.

Summary: Understanding the extent of human health risks from potentially toxic chemicals, particularly carcinogens such as hexavalent chromium in drinking water, is crucial for effective prevention and mitigation. A systematic review of scientific literature was performed to assess the carcinogenic human health risk due to exposure to total or hexavalent chromium. The review included epidemiological studies and case studies, indicating credible evidence that hexavalent chromium in water is a major contributor to cancer burden globally. However, limitations in dose and duration of exposure data in the target population highlight the need for further research.

Engineering Schottky-like and heterojunction materials for enhanced photocatalysis performance - a review

Priyanka Kumari et al.

Summary: Photocatalysis with nanostructured semiconductors is widely used for environmental remediation, but issues like fast recombination of charge carriers and poor redox abilities of the carriers need to be addressed. Metal/semiconductor and semiconductor/semiconductor interfaces have been engineered to create Schottky-like and heterojunction materials, which suppress charge carrier recombination and enhance catalytic performance. This review compares the fundamentals, structures, configurations, and charge transfer pathways of these materials and correlates their physicochemical properties with the degradation of dyes and organic pollutants in wastewater. The review also discusses the challenges and future perspectives for improving the design and properties of Schottky-like and heterojunction structures.

Ultrafast carrier dynamics in SnSe thin film studied by femtosecond transient absorption technique

Shengwen Yin et al.

Summary: The femtosecond transient absorption (TA) technique was used to study the ultrafast carrier dynamics of SnSe thin film prepared by pulsed laser deposition (PLD), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmittance spectrum were utilized to characterize the thin film. The research revealed that the responses of different processes were modulated by single pulse energy, carrier concentration, and temperature, as well as by the thickness of the thin films and probe wavelengths. Our findings enhance the understanding of the relaxation mechanism in SnSe thin film and provide insights into the ultrafast optical properties of this layered IV-VI chalcogenide.
