Recyclable Lignin-Based Light-Driven Shape Memory Epoxy Resins with Excellent Mechanical Performance

Xin Jin et al.

Summary: The use of biomass raw materials as replacements for traditional fossil resources is important for reducing pressure on nonrenewable resources and environmental pollution. This study developed recyclable lignin-based light-driven shape memory polymers (EELDs) that exhibited good mechanical properties, thermal stability, and shape memory properties.

Biostable Segmented Thermoplastic Polyurethane Shape Memory Polymers for Smart Biomedical Applications

Maryam Ramezani et al.

Summary: STPUs have exceptional tunability in chemical, mechanical, and shape memory properties, making them promising materials for a wide range of biomedical applications. By synthesizing and characterizing a library of STPUs with varying ratios of hard to soft segments, the composition can be changed and the properties of chemical, mechanical, thermal, and shape memory can be tuned.

Preparation of flexible biobased non-isocyanate polyurethane (NIPU) foams using the transurethanization approach

Vincent Valette et al.

Summary: A new process for the preparation of non-isocyanate polyurethane (NIPU) flexible foams has been developed in this study. These foams exhibit small cell diameters, low densities, and good thermal stability. The recovery time, hysteresis loss, and firmness of the foams are dependent on their chemical structures.

Multi-recyclable Shape Memory Supramolecular Polyurea with Long Cycle Life and Superior Stability

Shuai Zhang et al.

Summary: A shape memory supramolecular polyurea (SMSP) with excellent reprocessability and shape memory properties was successfully constructed by incorporating low-content non-covalently bonded linkers into the covalent network of SMP. The SMSP demonstrated remarkable shape memory performance, solvent resistance, and outstanding shape memory cycle stability, with over 92.7% shape recovery ratio even after 20 consecutive shape memory cycles. Additionally, the SMSP could be recycled for 7 times without significant decline in mechanical properties, indicating excellent multiple reprocessability.

Dual-Phase Poly(lactic acid)/Poly(hydroxybutyrate)-Rubber Copolymer as High-Performance Shape Memory Materials

Jayven Chee Chuan Yeo et al.

Summary: In this study, shape memory biopolymers based on a dual-phase polymer were developed, showing excellent flexibility and well-balanced shape memory performance. The incorporation of PHB-rubber improved interfacial interaction with the PLA phase, leading to high shape fixity and recovery rates. The dual-phase binary polymer has great potential as a shape memory polymer for biomedical applications.
