Regulatory mechanism of a novel non-aqueous absorbent for CO2 capture using 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol: Low viscosity and energy efficient

Mengmeng Ma et al.

Summary: The large-scale deployment of non-aqueous amine solution for carbon dioxide capture is hindered by high viscosity and insoluble substances. This study developed a novel non-aqueous absorbent for CO2 capture using the polyamine DA2MP as the main absorbent and the regulator AMP to reduce viscosity and eliminate insoluble substances. The absorbent exhibited high CO2 absorption load, low viscosity, and good regeneration performance with reduced energy consumption, making it a promising candidate for CO2 capture.

Novel 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol-based biphasic solvent for energy-efficient carbon dioxide capture using tetraethylenepentamine as a phase change regulator

Xiaobin Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, an effective strategy using TEPA was proposed to regulate the phase change behavior of an AMP-PMDETA aqueous solution, aiming to develop a novel A-P-T biphasic solvent with good regenerability and excellent phase separation performance. The A-P-T biphasic solvent achieved high CO2 loading and desorption efficiency, with significantly reduced sensible heat requirement compared to mono-ethanolamine solution. The introduction of TEPA generated high polar TEPA-associated products, which drove the A-P-T system to undergo phase change, forming a CO2-rich phase and a CO2-lean phase.

Development of green solvents for efficient post-combustion CO2 capture with good regeneration performance

Wenbin Qian et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the development of green solvents for CO2 capture by preparing deep eutectic solvents (DES) using glycine and proline as hydrogen bond acceptors and monoethanolamine and ethyl diethanolamine as hydrogen bond donors. The DES based on monoethanolamine shows better CO2 uptake capability compared to ethyl diethanolamine-based DES. The introduction of ethylene glycol enhances the absorption kinetics and regeneration ability. The DES [Gly][MEA][EG] exhibits excellent tolerance to water content and CO2 concentration in flue gases and shows robust performance in regeneration with no sustainable solvent loss after multiple cycles.

Asymmetry in the climate-carbon cycle response to positive and negative CO2 emissions

Kirsten Zickfeld et al.

Summary: The study reveals that negative CO2 emissions do not have a symmetric response compared to positive CO2 emissions. Emitting CO2 into the atmosphere is more effective at raising atmospheric CO2 levels than removing an equivalent amount of CO2 is at lowering it, indicating a complex climate outcome from avoiding or offsetting CO2 emissions with negative emissions.
