Clinical interpretation and cutoff scores for manual ability measured by the ABILHAND questionnaire in people with stroke

Elisabeth Ekstrand et al.

Summary: Clinically meaningful cutoff scores for different levels of perceived manual ability after stroke can be determined using the ABILHAND questionnaire, providing a useful tool for clinicians to interpret logit scores and select individualized treatment options.

Body structure/function impairments and activity limitations of post-stroke that predict social participation: a systematic review

Flaviane Ribeiro de Souza et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify body structure/function impairments and activity limitations in post-stroke that predict social participation restrictions. The results suggest that stroke severity, mental and motor deficits, limitations in activities of daily living, and the ability to walk after a stroke may predict social participation in the community.

NIHSS 24 h After Mechanical Thrombectomy Predicts 90-Day Functional Outcome

Philipp Hendrix et al.

Summary: The 24-hour NIHSS is a strong predictor for 90-day functional outcome following mechanical thrombectomy, especially when the NIHSS score is ≤ 8. Younger age and lower NIHSS score are independently associated with favorable functional outcome. However, factors such as older age, higher baseline NIHSS, and coexisting comorbidities may negate this relationship despite achieving a low 24-hour NIHSS score.

EASY score (Eloquent, Age and baseline SYmptoms score) for outcome prediction in patients with acute ischemic stroke

Basile Kerleroux et al.

Summary: The study aimed to test the addition of brain eloquent areas involvement in predicting poor outcome in patients with anterior circulation acute ischemic stroke. The EASY score, based on simple clinical features and assessment of key eloquent brain areas on early follow-up CT, proved to be an accurate tool for predicting 3-months functional outcome after ischemic stroke.

Impairment and Compensation in Dexterous Upper-Limb Function After Stroke. From the Direct Consequences of Pyramidal Tract Lesions to Behavioral Involvement of Both Upper-Limbs in Daily Activities

Agnes Roby-Brami et al.

Summary: This study examines the relationship between impairments, motor strategies, and individual performance in object handling tasks. By combining clinical studies and general findings, the research discusses how further quantitative studies in ecological contexts can provide greater insight into compensatory motor behavior in patients with neurological impairment of dexterous upper-limb function.
