Geology and geochronology of the Lalingzaohuo cobalt-bearing copper polymetallic skarn deposit, East Kunlun

Jiahao Chen et al.

Summary: The occurrence and genesis of cobalt in the Lalingzaohuo deposit were investigated to understand the ore-forming process and characteristics of a cobalt-bearing skarn. The deposit is mainly hosted in the Paleoproterozoic Jinshuikou Group and was formed during the Late Triassic. Cobalt mineralization is associated with metal sulfides, with isomorphic substitution occurring in pyrite, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite, and sphalerite.

Tracing the genesis of the Zhibula skarn deposit, Tibet, using Co, Te, Au and Ag occurrence

Shuo Wang et al.

Summary: The Zhibula skarn deposit in Tibet is a Cu polymetallic deposit. Previous research has focused on lithology, geochemistry, ore-forming fluid and mineralization age, but less attention has been given to Co, Te, Au and Ag occurrence. In this study, three paragenetic stages were distinguished based on mineralogy, with late retrograde skarn stage characterized by Co, Te, Au and Ag mineralization associated with chalcopyrite and bornite. Trace element analysis of the minerals in this deposit can be used as a general indicator of Co enrichment in skarn deposits.

Distribution of Co, Se, Cd, In, Re and other critical metals in sulfide ores from a porphyry-skarn system: A case study of Chengmenshan Cu deposit, Jiangxi, China

Xianzheng Guo et al.

Summary: This study investigates the distribution and occurrence of critical metals in pyrite, chalcopyrite, and sphalerite from the Chengmenshan Cu deposit. The deposit contains three ore types and undergoes three mineralization stages. The distribution of critical metals is closely related to sulfide minerals and controlled by fluid temperature. The mineralization pattern in the deposit shows a transition from Mo-Re to Cu-Co-Se-Te-Ga to Cu-Pb-Zn-Ag-Te-Cd-In from granite to distal stratum.

Geochronology and geochemistry of the W-Mo-ore-related granitic rocks from eastern Ningzhen, lower Yangtze river belt, eastern China

Fangyue Wang et al.

Summary: Based on zircon U-Pb-Hf and whole-rock studies, the magmatic rocks in eastern Ningzhen were formed in the Early Cretaceous from a thickened lower continental crust with a small part of mantle sources. The geochemical features of these rocks indicate a subduction setting and differences in magma sources compared to other areas in the region. The metallogenic differences between eastern and western Ningzhen suggest varying proportions of crustal materials in their magma sources.

Phase separation and fluid mixing revealed by trace element signatures in pyrite from porphyry systems

Manuel Keith et al.

Summary: Porphyry deposits host various trace elements in economic amounts, and understanding the processes causing their fractionation and enrichment is crucial for targeting prospective mineralization. This micro-analytical study on pyrite from the Koloula Cu-Au porphyry in the Solomon Islands provides insights into the trace element composition and its relationship with temperature, salinity, phase separation, and mixing of fluids. The results highlight the importance of considering the mineral inclusion effect and reveal the evolutionary stages of the porphyry mineralization.

Cobalt-rich characteristics and existing problems of porphyry gold-copper deposit: A case study of Jinchang deposit in Heilongjiang Province

Mingjian Cao et al.

Summary: Cobalt is a strategic critical metal and China heavily relies on foreign sources for its supply. With the increase in new energy vehicles and cobalt usage in power batteries, the consumption of cobalt is predicted to rise significantly in the coming years. China's cobalt resources mainly come from magmatic sulfide copper-nickel deposits and hydrothermal cobalt-bearing deposits, lacking sediment-hosted stratiform copper-cobalt deposits and nickel-cobalt laterite deposits.

Fluid compositions reveal fluid nature, metal deposition mechanisms, and mineralization potential: An example at the Haobugao Zn-Pb skarn, China

Qihai Shu et al.

Summary: The study of fluid inclusion compositions at the Haobugao Zn-Pb skarn in northeastern China using laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry provides insights into fluid origin, evolution, and metal deposition mechanisms. The results show that the early, prograde fluids were magmatic, later mixing with meteoric fluid caused dilution and metal deposition, and fluid-carbonate reactions facilitated Zn-Pb precipitation. The study also suggests low metal endowment at Haobugao, making it unlikely to find significant amounts of Sn or Mo in the area.

The occurrence and spatial distribution of cobalt in Longqiao iron deposit in Luzong Basin, Anhui Province

Yan Lei et al.

Summary: A large number of skarn-type iron deposits in eastern China, such as the Middle-Lower Yangtze River, Laiwu, Hanxing, and Linfen areas, contain cobalt with average grades of 0.01% - 0.03%. Previous studies have indicated that these Co-rich skarn iron deposits share the same metallogenic age and characteristics, formed by a large-scale mineralization event at 130Ma. The main Co-bearing mineral in these deposits is pyrite, but the occurrence and spatial distribution of cobalt in skarn iron deposits are still unknown.
