Synthesis of chitosan composite of metal-organic framework for the adsorption of dyes; kinetic and thermodynamic approach

Tooba Saeed et al.

Summary: The iron metal-organic framework composite CS/MOF-235 was synthesized and its adsorption performance for methylene blue and methyl orange was investigated. The results showed that CS/MOF-235 had much higher adsorption capacity than MOF-235 and chitosan. The adsorption mechanisms may involve hydrogen bonding, pi-pi bonding, pore-filling, electrostatic interactions, and chemisorption.

Novel amine-functionalized zinc-based metal-organic framework for low-temperature chemiresistive hydrogen sensing

Dong Hoon Yang et al.

Summary: Low-temperature operating chemiresistive gas sensors have advantages such as low power consumption, profitability, and device miniaturization. A solvothermal-processed amine-functionalized zinc-based metal-organic framework was developed as a detection material for a low-temperature H-2 gas sensor. The sensor showed significant sensitivity to low concentrations of H-2 at 50 degrees C.

Sulfate-functionalized hafnium-organic frameworks as a highly effective chemiresistive sensor for low-temperature detection of hazardous NH3 gas

Minh-Huy Dinh Dang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a solvothermal method for synthesizing sulfate-functionalized hafnium-organic frameworks (Hf-BTC-SO4) for low-temperature NH3 gas sensors. The characterization of Hf-BTC-SO4 shows good crystallinity, high thermal stability, and ultra-high specific surface area. The gas-sensing experiments confirm the selective detection of NH3 gas at a lower working temperature and excellent response reversibility.

The Optoelectronic Nose

Zheng Li et al.

Summary: Chemical sensing aims to detect the physical or chemical properties of molecules or ionic species and convert that information into distinguishable output. The olfactory system of animals serves as the prototype for chemical sensing, while the human sense of smell is a fundamental and powerful ability. Olfaction's chemical specificity does not come from specific receptors, but from pattern recognition of combined responses of olfactory receptors.

Investigation of colorimetric biosensor array based on programable surface chemistry of M13 bacteriophage towards artificial nose for volatile organic compound detection: From basic properties of the biosensor to practical application

Jong-Min Lee et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the correlation between surface chemistry of genetically engineered bacteriophages and the properties of bacteriophage-based optoelectronic noses, demonstrating controllable reactivity through genetic engineering. Phages advantageous in distinguishing VOCs were selected through HCA, with the differences verified through optimized geometry calculated by DFT. The study confirmed the importance of tryptophan-based and histidine-based genetically engineered phage films in distinguishing VOCs used to evaluate peach freshness, and applied this to design a field-applied phage-based optoelectronic nose for measuring fruit freshness.
