Development of a fluorescein modified ruthenium(II) complex probe for lysosome-targeted ratiometric luminescence detection and imaging of peroxynitrite in living cells

Junyu Ren et al.

Summary: Ratiometric luminescence probes have been widely studied for their potential applications in biological detection and noninvasive imaging. In this paper, a novel ruthenium(II) complex-fluorescein scaffold probe was developed for ratiometric luminescence detection of peroxynitrite. The probe exhibited high sensitivity and specificity for peroxynitrite and showed a large emission shift at a single excitation wavelength. The probe was successfully used for ratiometric bioimaging in living cells, overcoming the spectral overlap limitation of dual-emissive moieties.
