The ability of pre-magnetized zero-valent iron for peroxymonosulfate activation to remove ofloxacin

Yang Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, the ability of dry and wet Pre-ZVI/PMS to enhance the removal of ofloxacin (OFX) was investigated, along with the influence of environmental parameters and the long-term performance of Pre-ZVI/PMS. The results showed that the dry Pre-ZVI/PMS system had better removal performance in a wide pH range, with high OFX removal efficiencies and PMS utilization. However, the ability of Pre-ZVI to activate PMS decreased over time, but could be recovered with re-magnetization.

Mechanochemically tailoring oxygen vacancies of MnO2 for efficient degradation of tetrabromobisphenol A with peroxymonosulfate

Sylvestre Ndayiragije et al.

Summary: Oxygen vacancy engineering can enhance the catalytic activity of metal oxides. Using a solvent-free mechanochemical method, the VO levels on the surface of commercial MnO2 were successfully tailored, leading to improved catalytic performance. Singlet oxygen, generated from PMS and lattice oxygen of MnO2, plays a crucial role in the degradation of TBBPA. The Mn4+/Mn3+ redox couple is more important in catalytic activity.

Non-radical activation of peroxymonosulfate with oxygen vacancy-rich amorphous MnOX for removing sulfamethoxazole in water

Lan Xie et al.

Summary: This study improves the efficiency of removing refractory organic pollutants using PMS through the synthesis of amorphous MnOX. The results show that surface Mn4+ and oxygen vacancies are responsible for the generation of activated PMS and singlet oxygen (O-1(2)), respectively. The solution pH affects the degradation efficiency of MnOX-180, while the water matrix has little effect on its performance.

Electron-rich ketone-based covalent organic frameworks supported nickel oxyhydroxide for highly efficient peroxymonosulfate activation and sulfadiazine removal: Performance and multi-path reaction mechanisms

Baohua Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, ketone-based covalent organic frameworks (COFs) were used as a novel 2D carbon supporter to synthesize NiOOH@COFs composite. The efficient synergistic effect of NiOOH and COFs on the PMS activation resulted in faster degradation of sulfadiazine and more production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The leaching of Ni ions was also significantly reduced, demonstrating improved stability and reusability. This study provides new insights into the multi-path mechanism of synergistic PMS activation and contributes to the development of efficient metal-free catalysts for environmental remediation mediated by peroxymonosulfate.

Xinquan Zhou et al.

Summary: The study found that incorporating unreducible metal oxides into CuO hybrid magnetic nano ferric oxide can alter the reaction pathway and increase the reaction rate in persulfate activation. In the CuM@Fe3O4/PMS system, O-1(2) dominates the nonradical oxidation process, indicating the importance of singlet oxygen in the system.

Activation of persulfate by MnOOH: Degradation of organic compounds by nonradical mechanism

Xiaomin Xu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the use of manganese oxyhydroxide (MnOOH) as an activator for persulfate (PS) to degrade p-chloroaniline (PCA) from wastewater. Results showed that higher MnOOH and PS addition enhanced PCA degradation efficiency, while the degradation efficiency was slightly inhibited as the initial pH increased from 3 to 9. This research provides insights into the activation mechanism of PS by manganese oxide and supports the practical application of AOPs of manganese-based materials for wastewater treatment.
