A comparative study of iron-vanadium and all-vanadium flow battery for large scale energy storage

Hui Chen et al.

Summary: The iron-vanadium flow battery shows lower energy efficiency compared to the all-vanadium flow battery, especially at high current densities, but it has superior self-discharge properties. Both batteries exhibit outstanding stability during long-term operation, with the capacity of the iron-vanadium flow battery being less stable. However, the capacity of the iron-vanadium flow battery can be recovered with acceptable expenses and is cost-effective for long duration applications.

Pyromellitic diimide based bipolar molecule for total organic symmetric redox flow battery

Gabriel Sikukuu Nambafu et al.

Summary: Nonaqueous redox flow batteries based on total organic electrolytes are a promising technology for sustainable and large-scale energy storage. Bipolar redox-active organic materials (BROMs) are particularly attractive as electroactive species due to their multiple oxidation states. This study proposes an all-organic symmetric redox flow battery using a diimide molecule as a bipolar electroactive material, with promising cell voltage and excellent cycling performance.

Hydrothermal synthesis and characterization of transition metal (Mn/Fe/Cu) co-doped cerium oxide-based nano-additives for potential use in the reduction of exhaust emission from spark ignition engines

Nazish Qadeer et al.

Summary: The goal of this study was to synthesize cerium oxide-based nano-additives to reduce emissions from gasoline-fueled spark ignition engines. It was found that nano-sized CeO2 catalysts doped with transition metal ions effectively reduced harmful exhaust pollutants such as CO, HC, and NOx, which can be attributed to their large surface area, better redox characteristics, and the presence of structural defects.

Zhejun Li et al.

Summary: The study introduces a membrane design to reduce capacity decay in polysulfide-based ARFBs over long cycles and durations, enhancing cost-effectiveness. By developing a charge-reinforced ion-selective membrane, the polysulfide flow battery demonstrates stable cycling with low capacity decay rate. Small-angle X-ray scattering and in-situ attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared/solid-state NMR indicate improved membrane properties compared to commercial Nafion membrane.
