A novel and sustainable method to develop non-equiatomic CoCrFeNiMox high entropy alloys via spark plasma sintering using commercial commodity powders and evaluation of its mechanical behaviour

S. Venkatesh Kumaran et al.

Summary: This work explored a novel approach to develop high entropy alloys (HEAs) using spark plasma sintering (SPS) by using a mix of commercial commodity powders instead of pre-alloyed powders. Three non-equiatomic HEAs based on Co, Cr, Fe, Ni, and Mo were successfully designed and developed, showing excellent microstructural and mechanical properties. This study provides a cost-effective and efficient method for the fabrication of HEAs, allowing the discovery of new materials.

Forecasting quantities of critical raw materials in obsolete feature and smart phones in Greece: A path to circular economy

Eleni Kastanaki et al.

Summary: Mobile phone waste is increasing due to the short lifetime and high ownership. This study estimates the quantities of obsolete mobile phones in Greece from 1995 to 2035 and identifies the Critical Raw Materials (CRMs) and Precious Metals (PMs) embedded in them. The findings suggest that efficient recycling of obsolete phones can meet the demand for key metals in new smartphones for more than a decade, highlighting the importance of managing valuable e-waste.

Mechanical properties of Cantor alloys driven by additional elements: a review

Zhihua Zeng et al.

Summary: The Cantor alloy, known for its excellent ductility and fracture toughness, has the potential to be a high-entropy alloy but is limited by low strength, which can be enhanced by additional elements. This study reviews existing developments to identify additional elements that can improve the mechanical properties of the Cantor alloy, summarizes findings related to its mechanical properties and additional elements, and discusses theoretical strengthening values of various mechanisms. Recommendations are provided for further breakthroughs in improving the mechanical properties of the Cantor alloy by investigating the influence of additional elements on its phase structure.
