Serpentinite fluids and slab-melting in the Aleutian arc: Evidence from molybdenum isotopes and boron systematics

Ekaterina Rojas-Kolomiets et al.

Summary: Mo isotope compositions are used to study the sources of magmatic systems in the Aleutian arc. The study reveals the relative contributions of subducting oceanic crust, fluid-rich sources, subducted sediments, and upper mantle in the chemical composition of Aleutian arc magmas. The results indicate that different sections of the arc have distinct isotopic characteristics and play a significant role in tracing subduction zone fluids.

Molybdenum isotope systematics of lavas from the East Pacific Rise: Constraints on the source of enriched mid-ocean ridge basalt

Shuo Chen et al.

Summary: The study reveals significant variations in molybdenum isotopes in mid-ocean ridge basalts, indicating mantle compositional heterogeneity. The variations in Mo isotope compositions are best explained by two-component mixing between incompatible element depleted and enriched endmembers. The findings suggest that recycled oceanic mantle lithosphere metasomatized by low degree melt plays a key role in the formation of source lithologies in the East Pacific Rise.

The influence of crustal recycling on the molybdenum isotope composition of the Earth's mantle

Remco C. Hin et al.

Summary: Several studies have shown that the Earth's upper mantle is slightly enriched in light molybdenum isotopes compared to the bulk Earth. This study provides further evidence of this sub-chondritic signature in the upper mantle through the analysis of depleted mid-ocean ridge basalts from various ocean basins. The findings suggest that this feature may be a result of molybdenum isotope fractionation during the recycling of oceanic crust.
