Quantum oscillations in the centrosymmetric skyrmion-hosting magnet GdRu2Si2

N. Matsuyama et al.

Summary: We have conducted magnetic torque and resistivity measurements on the centrosymmetric skyrmion host GdRu2Si2. Both de Haas-van Alphen and Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations were observed in the forced ferromagnetic phase. The angular dependence of the quantum oscillation frequencies can be explained by an ab initio calculation. The presence of a different de Haas-van Alphen oscillation frequency in the double-Q phase suggests a Fermi surface reconstruction due to coupling between localized spins and conduction electrons. Based on these experimental findings, the magnetic interactions in this system are discussed.

Interlayer Coupling of a Two-Dimensional Kondo Lattice with a Ferromagnetic Surface in the Antiferromagnet CeCo2P2

Georg Poelchen et al.

Summary: The temperature scales at the surfaces of strongly correlated materials have attracted research attention. A two-dimensional Ce Kondo lattice is observed below the surface of the antiferromagnet CeCo2P2. The Ce 4f states become partially occupied and spin-polarized near the surface, interacting strongly with surface states. This study demonstrates the rich and diverse f-driven properties at the surface of materials without f-physics in the bulk.

Rashba-like physics in condensed matter

Gustav Bihlmayer et al.

Summary: Spin-orbit coupling in materials that lack inversion symmetry induces a unique form of Zeeman interaction in momentum space, resulting in interconnection between the electron's spin and momentum. This Review highlights recent progress in the development of condensed matter research that exploits the unique properties of spin-orbit coupling in non-centrosymmetric heterostructures, with a focus on new classes of materials and non-equilibrium transport effects.

Square skyrmion crystal in centrosymmetric itinerant magnets

Satoru Hayami et al.

Summary: The research investigates the square-type skyrmion crystal in centrosymmetric itinerant magnets, finding that it is stabilized by interactions between positive biquadratic, bond-dependent anisotropic, and easy-axis anisotropic interactions. This is different from triangular skyrmion crystals, which are stabilized by only one of the three interactions, indicating that the square skyrmion crystal is characteristic of itinerant magnets with magnetic anisotropy. The study also reveals a variety of noncollinear and noncoplanar spin textures depending on model parameters and applied magnetic fields.
