The Role of Socioeconomic Factors on Women's Risk of Being Exposed to Intimate Partner Violence

Meltem Ince-Yenilmez

Summary: The most important finding about intimate partner violence (IPV) in the past 20 years is that violence is closely related to gender, and it can only be understood in the context of gender inequality. Legal reforms and policies have been implemented in the past decade to promote gender equality. However, the study found that the impact of women's annual income and labor force participation on IPV is unclear.

Differentiating Characteristics of Intimate Partner Violence: Do Relationship Status, State, and Duration Matter?

Danielle Sutton et al.

Summary: This study examines the relationship status and state between victim and perpetrator in intimate partner violence (IPV) cases in Ontario between 2003 and 2009. Findings suggest that IPV in marital relationships is more severe due to weapon use, while IPV in estranged relationships is less likely to involve physical injury or weapon use compared to intact relationships. Relationship duration has a smaller impact on situational characteristics than demographic characteristics in IPV incidents.

Social Determinants of Domestic Violence Among Saudi Married Women in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Aljohara M. Alquaiz et al.

Summary: Intimate partner violence is a global public health issue. This study conducted in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, revealed that factors like younger age, lack of emotional and tangible support, perception of poor health, husbands' poor health, and polygamy are associated with higher odds of reporting domestic violence. Social conditions and support play a significant role in domestic violence against Saudi women, and the improvement of local policies and protection services can effectively prevent such violence.

Intimate Partner Violence in Saudi Arabia: A Systematic Review

Eman Alhalal et al.

Summary: Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a significant public health issue globally, with cultural variations in its prevalence. Research on IPV in Saudi Arabia is limited, with inconsistent data and definitions. Women in Saudi Arabia face various factors that make them vulnerable to IPV, impacting their physical and mental health, yet they rarely seek formal support. More comprehensive research is needed to develop effective prevention and intervention programs.
