The Psychological Impact of Slaughterhouse Employment: A Systematic Literature Review

Jessica Slade et al.

Summary: This study systematically reviewed the existing literature on the psychological impact of slaughterhouse employment. It found that slaughterhouse workers have higher rates of mental health issues, particularly depression and anxiety, as well as violence-supportive attitudes. The workers employ both adaptive and maladaptive coping strategies to deal with the workplace environment and associated stressors. Furthermore, there is evidence of a link between slaughterhouse work and increased crime levels, specifically antisocial behavior and sexual offending. This suggests the importance of addressing the psychological well-being of slaughterhouse workers.

Is thematic analysis used well in health psychology? A critical review of published research, with recommendations for quality practice and reporting

Virginia Braun et al.

Summary: Despite the dominance of the 'scientific psychology' paradigm, qualitative research in health psychology is growing. Thematic analysis (TA) is widely used but often poorly practiced. In this review of 100 papers reporting TA, we identified 10 common problematic areas and developed recommendations for authors, reviewers, and editors to improve practice and reporting quality. This article aims to facilitate better qualitative research and enhance the knowledge base of health psychology.
