Spillover-feedback effects of employment, energy, economy and environment (4E) between domestic-owned and foreign-invested enterprises: Taking China as an example

Junjun Hou et al.

Summary: Multinational enterprises (MNEs) play a significant role in a country's employment, energy, economy, and environment through the interactive linkages between domestic-owned enterprises (DOEs) and foreign-invested enterprises (FIEs). However, the impact of these linkages on the host country's sustainable development goals (SDGs) remains unclear. This study provides empirical evidence that the interactive linkages between DOEs and FIEs contribute to China's sustainable development, with the spillover effect of FIEs' 4E footprints being greater than the multiplier effect. The study highlights the importance of considering these linkages when assessing the role of FIEs in social, economic, and environmental fields.

Unmasking the Middle Class in the Philippines: Aspirations, Lifestyles and Prospects for Sustainable Consumption

Babette Never et al.

Summary: The study shows that wealth and environmental concern influence consumer energy saving behaviors, with younger, female, and environmentally concerned consumers more likely to choose sustainable modes of transportation. However, overall consumption patterns are expected to be more carbon-intensive and unsustainable as households move up the socioeconomic ladder. While the middle classes score fairly high on environmental concern and knowledge scales, education, savings, and income security matter more in their daily lives. More action based on behavioral insights is needed to bridge the knowledge-action gap for prospective sustainable consumption policies.

The Dynamic Links between Oil Prices and Economic Growth: Recent Evidence from Nonlinear Cointegration Analysis for the ASEAN-5 Countries

Khalid M. Kisswani

Summary: This article investigates the asymmetric relationship between real oil prices and real GDP for selected ASEAN countries using the NARDL model. The empirical findings show that an increase in oil prices leads to positive effect on GDP for all countries, although this outcome differs from the majority of studies.
