Say 'hi' from Gaia: women's travel guides and lesbian feminist community formation in the pre-internet era (1975-1992)

Summary: This research explores how American women, especially those who identified as lesbian, questioning, or queer, found information about other women with similar sexual orientations before the internet era. The women's travel guide, Gaia's Guide, provided information about safe spaces for women during the period of 1975-1992, which was significant for the women's and lesbian and gay liberation movements. However, the guides mainly focused on promoting a lesbian feminist community centered around whiteness and middle-class identity.
