Grey Markov Models for Predicting the Social Sustainability Performances of Firms

Summary: Considering the three dimensions of sustainability, social sustainability is given less attention by firms, which is evident from the sustainability ratings of firms, especially in developing economies. Thomson Reuters measures social sustainability using four major indicators: shareholders score, community score, product responsibility score, and human rights score. These indicators are measured based on company level indicators reported by firms. A study on the ESG ratings of 10 Indian firms over the past nine years shows declining trends in social sustainability, indicating the need for improvement in their strategies. Based on the theory of Utilitarianism, improvements in socially responsible activities of firms can result in social good and sustainable competitive advantages.

Industry 5.0: analyzing the challenges in implementation using grey influence analysis

Summary: The author explores the challenges to implementation of Industry 5.0 in the manufacturing sector, considering the developing economy context and studying the causal relationships among factors using an advanced causal modelling technique, the Grey Influence Analysis (GINA). Based on the results from the expert response-based study in the Indian manufacturing industry, it is seen that the Regulatory challenges (RGC) appear to be the most important challenge that needs to be tackled first, while implementing Industry 5.0. Integration with existing systems and Ethical challenges (ETC) emerge as the second and third most important in the category of challenges, as per the results from the GINA analysis.

An integrated decision-making approach for sustainable supplier selection in the chemical industry
