Steady-state auditory motion based potentials evoked by intermittent periodic virtual sound source and the effect of auditory noise on EEG enhancement

Huanqing Zhang et al.

Summary: This study explores the possibility of eliciting a steady-state brain response in an intermittent periodic motion sound source using virtual sound and different noise levels. The results indicate that moderate noise enhances the amplitude and brain connectivity of steady-state motion auditory evoked potential (SSMAEP). This study enriches the types of evoked potentials and provides insights into the brain processing of motion sound sources and the impact of noise on brain processing.

Past, Present, and Future of EEG-Based BCI Applications

Kaido Varbu et al.

Summary: An EEG-based BCI system interprets EEG signals to establish a connection between the brain and external devices. Originally developed for medical purposes, these applications have expanded to improve the lives of healthy individuals as well. This review provides a systematic overview of the literature on EEG-based BCI applications from 2009 to 2019, analyzing the distribution of research in medical and non-medical domains, equipment used, signal processing methods, and current challenges and future possibilities.

Neural correlates of user learning during long-term BCI training for the Cybathlon competition

Stefano Tortora et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of mutual learning on the performance and stability of brain-computer interfaces (BCIs). The results show that focusing on user learning can significantly improve BCI performance over time and that analyzing the modifications of neural patterns in the Riemannian domain is effective in tracking the acquisition and stabilization of BCI skills. The study highlights the importance of user learning in enhancing BCI reliability and suggests shifting the focus of future research to explore novel training procedures.

Asymmetrical cross-modal influence on neural encoding of auditory and visual features in natural scenes

Wenyuan Yu et al.

Summary: Natural scenes contain multi-modal information that can modulate neural encoding of low-level sensory features. Our study shows asymmetrical cross-modal interactions during the processing of natural scenes lacking rhythmicity, with congruent visual information enhancing low-level auditory processing, while congruent auditory information does not significantly modulate low-level visual processing.

Sound-modulations of visual motion perception implicate the cortico-vestibular brain

Dorita H. F. Chang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the audiovisual bounce inducing effect (ABE) and found that sound-induced modulations of motion perception can be further modulated by changing motion dynamics of the visual targets. The posterior parietal cortex and the parieto-insular-vestibular cortical complex were found to be closely associated with this effect, suggesting the involvement of the insular cortex in deriving a probabilistic perceptual solution through the integration of multisensory data.

Direct Structural Connections between Auditory and Visual Motion-Selective Regions in Humans

Ane Gurtubay-Antolin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the presence of direct white matter connections between visual and auditory motion-selective regions in humans, confirming the potential existence of occipitotemporal projections between hMT(+)/V5 and hPT. The findings suggest functional specificity of these connections, supporting the exchange of motion information between specialized auditory and visual regions.

Dynamic Gesture Recognition Algorithm Based on 3D Convolutional Neural Network

Yuting Liu et al.

Summary: Gesture recognition is an important means of human-computer interaction, but the recognition of dynamic gestures faces challenges such as high computational complexity, complex feature extraction, and a large number of network parameters. To address these issues, a dynamic gesture recognition model based on CBAM-C3D is proposed, which outperforms current mainstream methods with an accuracy of 72.4% on the EgoGesture dataset through key frame extraction, multimodal joint training, and network optimization.
