Disentangling Local Interfacial Confinement and Remote Spillover Effects in Oxide-Oxide Interactions

Cui Dong et al.

Summary: The interaction between oxide catalyst and oxide support is crucial in catalytic reactions. The construction of chemically bonded oxide-oxide interface by deposition of Co3O4 onto ZnO powder inhibits the complete reduction of Co3O4 and maintains a metastable CoOx state, resulting in high selectivity towards CO in CO2 hydrogenation reaction. On the other hand, physically contacted oxide-oxide interface formed by mechanical mixing promotes the reduction of Co3O4 and enhances CO2 conversion and selectivity towards CH4 through the remote spillover of dissociated hydrogen species.

In Situ Construction of a Co/ZnO@C Heterojunction Catalyst for Efficient Hydrogenation of Biomass Derivative under Mild Conditions

Ya-Ru Shao et al.

Summary: This study successfully synthesized a highly active and stable heterojunction catalyst and achieved efficient hydrogenation of biomass-derived levulinic acid to high-value gamma-valerolactone under mild conditions. The carbon-encapsulated structure of the catalyst and the Co-ZnO interfacial interaction played important roles in the catalytic activity and stability.

H2 Activation on Pristine and Substitutional ZnO(10(1)over-bar0) and Cr2O3 (001) Surfaces by Density Functional Theory Calculations

Jie Luo et al.

Summary: This study investigates the activation and subsequent dehydration of hydrogen molecules on metal oxide surfaces using density functional theory. The results show that the pristine ZnO surface is active for hydrogen dissociation, while the presence of Cr decreases the reactivity. Cr2O3 is less active for hydrogen dissociation, but the presence of Zn increases the surface reactivity. Overall, this study provides insights into hydrogen activation and can guide the design of active catalysts for syngas conversion.

Functional CeOx nanoglues for robust atomically dispersed catalysts

Xu Li et al.

Summary: Single-atom catalysts make efficient use of noble metals but suffer from limited stability. This study presents a strategy of confining atomically dispersed metals on oxide nanoclusters, which are immobilized on a high-surface-area support, to enhance stability. The resulting catalyst exhibits improved performance in CO oxidation under both oxidizing and reducing environments at high temperatures.

Tandem In2O3-Pt/Al2O3 catalyst for coupling of propane dehydrogenation to selective H2 combustion

Huan Yan et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that growing In2O3 over Pt/Al2O3 using atomic layer deposition results in a nanostructure that kinetically couples domains through surface hydrogen atom transfer, improving the selective oxidative dehydrogenation of propane. In contrast, other nanostructures, such as Pt on In2O3 or Pt mixed with In2O3, were unable to organize the reactions effectively, resulting in more propane combustion.
