Infant-directed song potentiates infants' selective attention to adults' mouths over the first year of life

Acoustic regularities in infant-directed speech and song across cultures

Summary: When interacting with infants, humans alter their speech and song to support communication, and this phenomenon is observed globally. Our study found that the acoustic features of infant-directed vocalizations differ across different cultures but in consistent patterns. Furthermore, listeners are able to accurately recognize these infant-directed vocalizations.

Prosodic input and children's word learning in infant- and adult-directed speech

Summary: This study examines whether infant-directed speech (IDS) facilitates children's word learning compared to adult-directed speech (ADS), and the link between the prosody of IDS in word-learning contexts and children's word learning from ADS and IDS. The results show that 24-month-old Dutch children can reliably learn novel words from both ADS and IDS, with IDS having a facilitative effect. Furthermore, children's word learning from IDS is predicted by IDS pitch range when introducing unfamiliar words at 18 months, highlighting individual and contextual differences in IDS prosody.

Effect of music therapy on preterm infants in neonatal intensive care unit: Systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Summary: Music therapy has shown significant effects on preterm infants' heart rate, respiratory rate, oral feeding volume, stress level, and maternal anxiety with moderate-to-high heterogeneity among studies. However, it has no influence on oxygen saturation and behavioral state. Further studies with larger sample sizes and more stringent designs are needed to provide more conclusive recommendations.

Acoustic signatures of communicative dimensions in codified mother-infant interactions
