A low-tortuosity wood derived carbon (WDC) with gradient-distributed lithiophilic sites is constructed using biomimetic capillary action, as an efficient scaffold for lithium deposition/stripping. The WDC-GDAg electrode exhibits favorable Li plating behavior and high cycling stability, with high capacity retention and remarkable rate performance in full cells.

Reversible Discharge Products in Li-Air Batteries

Besides lithium peroxide, other discharge products such as lithium hydroxide, lithium superoxide, lithium oxide, and lithium carbonate have been investigated, bringing breakthroughs for Li-air battery technologies. The systematic review of recent advances in understanding the electrochemical reactions and conversions of discharge products provides insights into the fundamental development and future applications of Li-air batteries.

Fe catalysed transformation of oxygen functional groups on coal based needle coke for sodium storage

Summary: In this study, carbon materials with oxygen functional groups (OFGs) were modified to be efficient sodium storage sites through catalytic transformation. The transformation also induced the formation of ring graphite domains. The modified carbon material exhibited a balance between abundant sodium storage sites and suitable electron distribution, resulting in high reversible capacities for both sodium and potassium storage.

Regulating the exposed crystal facets of α-Fe2O3 to promote Fe2O3-modified biochar performance in heavy metals adsorption

The chemisorption process was found to be the dominant adsorption mechanism. Fe2O3/BC-350 exhibited superior adsorption capacity for Cu (II) and Pb(II), while Fe2O3/BC-250 showed good adsorption capacity for As(V). DFT calculations revealed that different Fe2O3/BC had different adsorption affinities to various heavy metals.

The optimized 3DLCC shows excellent electrochemical performances, including low nucleation overpotential, high Coulombic efficiency, small polarization voltage, and long cycle life.

Summary: By modulating the surface chemistry and structure of carbon fiber, we have successfully prepared lithiophilic pore-gradient structured and oxygen-enriched carbon fiber (PGOCF) as a dense Li nucleation enabler, using CoAl layered double hydroxide as an etchant-protectant agent. The O enriched PGOCF exhibits strong Li absorption and the pore-gradient structure effectively lowers Li nuclei-substrate contact angle, resulting in dense and uniform Li electrodeposition.
