Assessing Bidirectional Relations Between Infant Temperamental Negative Affect, Maternal Anxiety Symptoms and Infant Affect-Biased Attention Across the First 24-Months of Life

Alicia Vallorani et al.

Summary: This study examined the bidirectional relations between infant affect-biased attention, temperamental negative affect, and maternal anxiety symptoms using a Random Intercepts Cross-Lagged Panel model. The results suggest that fluctuation in maternal anxiety symptoms is associated with stability in infants' attention to angry and happy facial configurations, as well as stability in infant negative affect.

Infants' neural responses to emotional faces are related to maternal anxiety

Lindsay C. Bowman et al.

Summary: Postnatal maternal anxiety is associated with infants' neural processing of emotional expressions, with greater maternal anxiety predicting more negative responses to happy and fearful faces. This suggests an impact on infants' developing understanding of emotions and highlights the importance of addressing maternal anxiety in early mother-infant interactions.

The Stability of Early Developing Attentional Bias for Faces and Fear From 8 to 30 and 60 Months in the FinnBrain Birth Cohort Study

Eeva-Leena Kataja et al.

Summary: Most infants show more attention towards faces and fearful facial expressions. The attentional bias decreases as they grow older, but the development of these biases beyond early childhood is not well understood. This study longitudinally assesses attention disengagement patterns in a large sample of children at different ages and finds that the bias towards faces and fear follows a nonlinear trajectory in early childhood.
