Synthesis of high purity calcium fluoride from fluoride-containing wastewater

Shaowei You et al.

Summary: This study presents a new process for recovering high purity calcium fluoride from wastewater. A column reactor system with calcium sulfate dihydrate as reaction medium was used, resulting in the successful production of calcium fluoride with purity exceeding 99% and reducing fluoride concentration in wastewater to less than 10 mg/L. The process effectively removes fluoride while recovering high-purity calcium fluoride and various parameters such as initial fluoride concentration, flow rate, pH, and time significantly influence fluoride removal efficiency. The study offers an effective strategy for resource utilization and standard discharge of fluorine-containing wastewater.

Comparison of Adsorptive Removal of Fluoride from Water by Different Adsorbents under Laboratory and Real Conditions

Agostina Chiavola et al.

Summary: The fluoride removal capability of six different adsorbents was investigated under different conditions. TiO2 showed the highest adsorption capacity and was capable of efficiently removing arsenic and vanadium. Other adsorbents also achieved fluoride reduction, but only at acid pH. The nano-sized laboratory media had lower adsorption efficiency than TiO2 but higher efficiency than A33E, GAC, and GFH. Adsorbent dosage and pH were found to be the main factors affecting removal efficiency.

Conversion of Organic Waste to Novel Adsorbent for Fluoride Removal: Efficacy and Mechanism of Fluoride Adsorption by Calcined Venerupis philippinarum Shells

Moon-Yeong Choi et al.

Summary: Venerupis philippinarum shells (VPSs) have high potential as a fluoride adsorbent due to their high Ca content and low processing cost. Calcination of VPSs at different temperatures revealed that those calcined at 800 and 900 degrees C had the highest fluoride adsorption capacity. The increase in calcination temperature resulted in the transformation of CaCO3 to CaO and Ca(OH)2, enhancing the solubility of Ca and allowing for fluoride adsorption.

Moon-Yeong Choi et al.

Summary: This study assessed the use of Mactra veneriformis shells as an adsorbent for fluoride removal from water. The shells calcined at 800 and 900 degrees C had the highest adsorption capacity for fluoride. The adsorption process followed the pseudo-second-order and Langmuir models. The optimized conditions for fluoride removal were determined using response surface methodology and artificial neural networks. The Mactra veneriformis shells showed high fluoride removal efficiency under the optimized conditions.

Calcium hydroxide recycled from waste eggshell resources for the effective recovery of fluoride from wastewater

Wenjing Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, waste eggshells were successfully transformed into calcium hydroxide for fluoride removal. The adsorption capacity of the modified eggshells was significantly improved through an aging treatment with moisture. Temperature was found to have the greatest impact on the adsorption process, and the pseudo-second order model and Langmuir-Freundlich isotherm model provided good fits for the adsorption process. Precipitation was identified as the main step in the fluoride removal mechanism. The modified eggshells were able to meet the fluoride concentration requirements in real-life groundwater and industrial wastewater.

Fluoride removal by thermally treated egg shells with high adsorption capacity, low cost, and easy acquisition

Jae-In Lee et al.

Summary: In this study, eggshells treated at 800 degrees C were found to be highly efficient adsorbents for fluoride removal with a maximum adsorption capacity of 258.28 mg/g at pH 7 and 25 degrees C, 18 times larger than that of activated alumina. The fluoride removal mechanism involved the formation of calcium fluorite (CaF2) as revealed by XRD and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis. The presence of anions was found to decrease fluoride adsorption, with the impact following the order: HPO43- > HCO3- >> SO42- > Cl-.
