Mechanical properties of high strength steels and weld metals at arctic low temperatures

Man -Tai Chen et al.

Summary: This study aims to obtain fundamental knowledge on the mechanical properties of high strength steels and high strength weld metals at arctic low temperatures. Tensile coupon tests were conducted on two types of high strength steels (Q890, Q960) and three types of high strength weld metals (ER100S-G, ER110S-G, ER120S-G) at temperatures ranging from -75°C to 25°C. The stress-strain responses and key mechanical properties were analyzed and prediction equations for these properties at arctic low temperatures were proposed.

Mechanical properties and constitutive model of Q345GJ thick steel plate in China

Naizhou Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanical properties of Q345GJ thick steel plates with thicknesses of 60 mm and 100 mm through layered specimens and analyzed the specimens from different thickness positions. The results showed that the surface-layer specimens had higher strength but lower ductility. Furthermore, the calibrated cyclic constitutive model in this study can be used for further numerical simulations.

Ultra-Low Cyclic Fatigue Fracture of Q235B and Q345B Steels and Their Butt Welded Joints

Xiyue Liu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the ultra-low cyclic fatigue fracture of steel welded joints under earthquakes through experiments and numerical analysis. The study finds that Q345B has a better dissipation capacity than Q235B, and the fracture resistance in the weld zone is weaker.

Experimental investigation into mechanical properties of Q345 steel after fire

Gang Shi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the post-fire mechanical properties of Q345 steel, revealing the impact of cooling methods under different temperature conditions on the base metal and weld performance. Predictive formulas for predicting post-fire mechanical property variations were proposed, aiding engineers in repairing fire-damaged steel structures.

Experimental Study on Static and Low Cyclic Performance of Q460GJC Thick Plates

Shidong Nie et al.

Summary: The study investigates the variations of static and low cyclic performances of Q460GJC thick plates in different layers in the transverse and Z-direction. The results show that the closer the material is to the outer surface, the higher the yield strength, better ductility, and increased cyclic strength. Additionally, transverse specimens exhibit higher yield strength and reduction area compared to Z-direction specimens at the same layer. The thick plates also demonstrate good seismic performance in both directions at different layers.

Static and fatigue properties of 80 mm-thick Q460GJC butt weld joint

Jingyao Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the static and fatigue properties of butt weld joints of Q460GJC steel plate with different layers in the weld zone and heat-affected zone. The results showed variations in yield point and fatigue strength among different layers, and proposed fatigue calculation formulas based on European, US, and Chinese standards.

Experimental investigation on fatigue behavior of butt-welded high-strength steel plates

Lewei Tong et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the mechanical properties and fatigue performance of butt welded high strength steel plates, comparing them with conventional strength steels. It found variations in natural slope of S-N curves for HSS butt-welded connections and recommended two fatigue design approaches based on different slopes.
