The novel pyridazine pyrazolecarboxamide insecticide dimpropyridaz inhibits chordotonal organ function upstream of TRPV channels

Christian Spalthoff et al.

Summary: PPCs are a novel class of insecticides that control piercing-sucking pests by inhibiting the activity of chordotonal neurons. Dimpropyridaz, the first submitted PPC, effectively controls aphids and whiteflies. The mode of action of PPCs is unique and different from other insecticides.

A sensitive and specific enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the detection of pymetrozine in vegetable, cereal, and meat

Xiaoyang Yin et al.

Summary: A specific and sensitive monoclonal antibody (McAb) was developed to detect pymetrozine residues using an indirect competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (icELISA) with a 50% inhibition value (IC50) of 7.70 μg/L. This method showed little cross-reactivity with other pesticides and demonstrated high accuracy in detecting pymetrozine residues in various food samples.

Monitoring residue levels of multiple types pesticides in chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat) and its residue pattern in diet consumption

Jiazhao Ruan et al.

Summary: In this study, a modified QuEChERS method was used to detect six pesticide residues in chrysanthemum samples. The method involved acetonitrile-2.5% formic acid extraction with EN QuEChERS method extraction salts, followed by purification with PSA/GCB/C18. The recovery rates of pesticides were satisfactory and the transfer rates of pyraclostrobin in chrysanthemum were determined. The method may be suitable for quantitative detection of chemical pesticides in chrysanthemums and pyraclostrobin posed a negligible risk to human health.

Presenting the Secrets: Exploring Endogenous Defense Mechanisms in Chrysanthemums against Aphids

Changchen Xia et al.

Summary: Chrysanthemums, the second-largest cut flower plant globally and one of China's top ten traditional flowers, have significant economic value and face considerable threats from aphids. This review explores aphids' impact on chrysanthemums, focusing on the unique defense mechanisms that have developed in chrysanthemums to combat these pests. The paper also discusses reported aphid-resistance genes in chrysanthemums and predicts potential aphid-resistance genes in other species based on the Chrysanthemum nankingense genome.

Natural dynamics and residues of pymetrozine for typical rice-growing areas of China

Muyesaier Tudi et al.

Summary: Pymetrozine has replaced toxic organophosphate pesticides for controlling rice pests in China. Field studies were conducted to investigate the natural dynamics and residues of pymetrozine in rice fields. The results showed that pymetrozine had a low environmental persistence in both paddy water and soils, which has significant implications for its use in agricultural systems globally.

The spatial-temporal chemical footprint of pesticides in China from 1999 to 2018

Qiaonan Jing et al.

Summary: This study assessed the ecological impact of pesticide use in China from 1999 to 2018 using the Chemical Footprint (ChF) calculation. The results showed that the most significant ecological impacts occurred in central and eastern regions of China, affecting agricultural soil and surface sea waters. Some provinces in the northeast, south, and central areas had moderate impacts, while the northwest regions had lighter impacts. Certain pesticides, despite their low usage amounts, had the greatest impact on the ecosystem. The study also revealed a decline in the overall ecological impact of pesticide use in China since 2010.

Risk assessment of carbofuran residues in fruits and vegetables at the Chinese market: A 7-year survey

Xuechong Lv et al.

Summary: This study assessed the levels of carbofuran residues in fruits and vegetables collected from 1388 sampling sites in 31 regions. The data revealed that carbofuran residues were still detectable in a small percentage of fruits and vegetables, but the intake of these produce did not pose a chronic health risk. However, some fruits and vegetables were associated with an unacceptable acute risk, especially for children.

Summary: The olfactory mechanisms in insects play a crucial role in receiving chemical signals, and studying these mechanisms can guide the development of pest control measures. This study analyzed the antennal transcriptome of chrysanthemum aphids to identify chemosensory genes and investigated their expression profiles. The findings contribute to our understanding of the olfactory system and provide a foundation for future functional studies.

Pesticide residues and dietary risk assessment in radishes in Shandong

Ying Jiang et al.

Summary: This study assessed the potential health risks from pesticide residues in radishes in Shandong Province, China. The findings showed that 44.50% of the radish samples contained 26 detected pesticide residues, with 13.08% exceeding the maximum residue limits. Multiple residues were found in 5.09% of samples. While the overall health risk was not severe, acute health risks, particularly to toddlers, should be given more attention.

Wenting Wang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the residual concentrations of the pesticides methoxyfenozide and pymetrozine in Chinese cabbage and assess the associated health risks. The results showed that temperature had a significant impact on the dissipation of these pesticides, with higher temperatures leading to faster degradation. Furthermore, higher pesticide residues in Chinese cabbage during low-temperature seasons resulted in higher health risk quotients.

Improving pesticide uptake modeling and management in potatoes: A simple and approximate phloem-adjusted model

Zijian Li

Summary: The study developed a phloem-adjusted model to assess the impact of phloem flux on pesticide uptake in potatoes. The model showed that the phloem route did not significantly contribute to pesticide uptake in potato tubers compared to the soil diffusion route. The adjusted model could increase pesticide concentration by approximately 10%, within the acceptable uncertainty interval of the classic model.
