Monitoring Land Subsidence Using PS-InSAR Technique in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, Pakistan

Junaid Khan et al.

Summary: Land subsidence is a significant issue faced by rapidly growing metropolitans worldwide. Groundwater extraction and urban development pose the most serious risks in this context. Using the PS-InSAR method and Sentinel-1 SAR imagery, land subsidence in the Rawalpindi-Islamabad area was tracked and studied. The results reveal a significant increase in subsidence, highlighting the importance of effective mapping, detection, and monitoring for better planning, infrastructure design, and risk management related to subsidence.

Urban scaling patterns for sustainable development goals related to water, energy, infrastructure, and society in China

Changchang Zhou et al.

Summary: This study adopts the SDG framework to establish holistic urban metrics tailored to China's context, and empirically examines the city-level scaling effects in China's prefectural cities. The study finds that the urban metrics of these cities generally fit into the scaling theory, and population correlates with many metrics.

PS-InSAR-Based Validated Landslide Susceptibility Mapping along Karakorum Highway, Pakistan

Muhammad Afaq Hussain et al.

Summary: The research involved the comparison of XGBoost and RF models to analyze the association between causative parameters and landslides along the Karakorum Highway. A comprehensive landslide inventory and susceptibility mapping were conducted, with PS-InSAR technique used to investigate deformation movement in susceptible zones. The XGBoost method showed superior accuracy in creating a new LSM model for the area, which may assist in mitigating landslide disaster and ensuring safe operation of the highway.
