Human gut commensal bacterium Ruminococcus species FMB-CY1 completely degrades the granules of resistant starch

Yeong-Sik Hong et al.

Summary: Resistant starch in the diet can be fermented and degraded by gut microbiota in the large intestine, which has beneficial effects on human health. A newly discovered species of Ruminococcus bacterium, FMB-CY1, was found to be capable of completely degrading resistant starch and producing glucose and maltose. This discovery provides insights into the mechanism of resistant starch degradation in the human gut.

Insulin Resistance: From Mechanisms to Therapeutic Strategies

Shin-Hae Lee et al.

Summary: Insulin resistance, characterized by reduced responsiveness of insulin-targeting tissues to physiological levels of insulin, is a key pathogenic component of many metabolic diseases. This review summarizes the functions of insulin in glucose metabolism and discusses the mechanisms proposed for insulin resistance, such as ectopic lipid accumulation, endoplasmic reticulum stress, and inflammation. Potential therapeutic strategies for addressing insulin resistance are also suggested.

A review of the amino acid metabolism in placental function response to fetal loss and low birth weight in pigs

Chengquan Tan et al.

Summary: The fertility of sows is influenced by embryo losses during gestation and the survival rate of the post-farrowing piglets. Placental growth and development play a vital role in fetal survival, growth, and development. Functional amino acids such as glycine, proline, and arginine are important for placental function, but their exact regulation mechanism is not yet clarified.

Antioxidant potential of Pediococcus pentosaceus strains from the sow milk bacterial collection in weaned piglets

Leli Wang et al.

Summary: A study identified a potentially probiotic strain of Pediococcus in sow milk that confers antioxidant capacity by activating the Nrf2-Keap1 signaling pathway in piglets. The findings provide useful resources for understanding the relationship between maternal microbiota and offspring.

Effects of dietary supplementation of gestating sows with adenosine 5MODIFIER LETTER PRIME-monophosphate or adenosine on placental angiogenesis and vitality of their offspring

Deyuan Wu et al.

Summary: This study found that maternal dietary supplementation of AMP or ADO can increase their contents in the placenta, thereby improving placental angiogenesis and neonatal piglet vitality. These findings may offer new strategies for regulating sow reproductive performance and piglet growth.

Zihao Huang et al.

Summary: Normal placental development and proper angiogenesis are crucial for fetal growth during pregnancy, with factors like VEGF, DLL4, Wnt, and Hedgehog playing key roles in the process. Cell proliferation, migration, and differentiation are affected by the synthesis and secretion of metabolites, as well as coordination or inhibition in signaling pathways.

Nox2 impairs VEGF-A-induced angiogenesis in placenta via mitochondrial ROS-STAT3 pathway

Chengjun Hu et al.

Summary: The study reveals that Nox2 deficiency facilitates angiogenesis by inhibiting the VEGF-A and STAT3 pathway, and reducing VEGF-A expression through inducing ROS production in pigs' vascular endothelial cells. The findings suggest that Nox2 could be a potential therapeutic target for increasing VEGF-A expression to promote angiogenesis, and also serve as a prognostic indicator for fetus with IUGR.

Inclusion of wheat aleurone in gestation diets improves postprandial satiety, stress status and stillbirth rate of sows

Jinping Deng et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of including different amounts of wheat aleurone in gestation diets on the reproductive performance, satiety, stress status, and behavior of sows. The results showed that including 15% wheat aleurone led to improved postprandial satiety, reduced stress levels, and decreased stillbirth rates in sows. These findings suggest that wheat aleurone can be a beneficial partial substitute for conventional feed ingredients to enhance sow reproductive performance.
