Acoustic speech markers for schizophrenia-spectrum disorders: a diagnostic and symptom-recognition tool

Summary: This study assessed the diagnostic value of acoustic speech parameters in schizophrenia-spectrum disorders and found that automatically extracted speech parameters can accurately classify patients and controls, as well as differentiate between different symptom subtypes. Speech as a promising biosignal in precision psychiatry

Novel health technologies that use speech enable continuous monitoring to detect and prevent health events. These technologies could extract health-relevant biosignals from smartphones, helping detect disorders and deliver tailored interventions. However, more research is needed to identify important speech signals and validate them against ground-truth outcomes.

Speech as an indicator for psychosocial stress: A network analytic approach

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the associations between speech parameters in the context of psychosocial stress, finding that the network of speech parameters remains similar before and after stress induction, with HNR playing a central role, and changes in jitter positively relating to changes in negative affect. Further longitudinal and experimental studies are needed to explore these relationships and determine causal paths in the networks.

Quantified language connectedness in schizophrenia-spectrum disorders

Summary: This study investigated the language connectedness in spontaneous speech of patients with schizophrenia-spectrum disorders and controls using natural language processing. Results showed impaired connectedness in patients' speech, with a classification accuracy of 85%. The best discriminating features were found to be the similarity variance at window sizes between 5 and 10 words.
